Hi Sma!

I think a lot of mothers can relate to this. I totally agree with you that some women just go back to their previous weight without any effort, genetics I guess?

Strangely I did almost lose all the pregnancy weight after a month and then I started to slowly pick up weight again. I had a lot of difficulty adjusting to motherhood and did not cope well with the sleep deprivation which I suspect had an influence on my weight.

I weighed 58 Kg before pregnancy and I currently way 64kg. I managed to loose about 3 kg's last year but it seems that I have picked it up again! Somehow I am not to worried about it anymore. For me it is more important to feel healthy and know that I make good food choices (most of the time!) and stick to my exercise plan. I have given up on going to gym or exercise classes because I just can't fit in into my schedule. Now I exercise in the mornings for 20 minutes (pilates) at home with a dvd.

I think one of the biggest pitfalls for moms are that they commit to an unrealistic goal when it comes to exercise and then give up on it all together. I think each person should find a realistic amount of exercise that is actually doable and fits into your schedule.

I can honestly say that the first while for me with a baby was tough and I just did not have the energy to follow an exercise program and I don't feel bad about it. However now that my LG is much older I don't have anymore excuses!

Being tired and sleep deprived unfortunately often leads to making bad food choices. As far as possible I would suggest rather making sure you eat 3 balanced meals with loads of fresh fruit and veggies, follow a low GI diet and try and cut out as much as possible refined foods, sugar and unhealthy fats in your diet and drink at least 2 litres of water (stay away from fruit juice and soft drinks!).

I think for the first while with a young child under your roof, I would suggest making your focus on a healthy balanced diet and accepting that motherhood takes its toll on your body.

If you feel that you really want to loose weight faster I would suggest a program like weight watchers that helps you to focus on your goals while assisting you with good food choices.

Calling all moomies!!! :)

So I've just told the other January moms how I'm struggling to lose the pregnancy weight. Somebody say you fill me

Moms who've gone back to pre-pregnancy weight, and maybe even less weight than before... And I mean moms who actually had to work at it, cos there are extremely fortunate ladies who just shrink back... How did you do it!!! Before returning to work I went to the gym quite faithfully, lost like 2 kgs, at least I was able to wear some jeans I bought when I was 7 months pregnant. But to summon the energy to wake up early and run around the block....eish....

So if you know what you weight was soon after birth, and what it is now, no you don't have to tell us :) if you're uncomfortable, but tell us how much you've lost over what period, some of us need the encouragement and to feel that envy  sometimes that can make us wanna lose that much also!!!!!
