I would say take her to a homeopath, rather than a GP or paed, so that they can treat her long-term health.

And then look at dietary changes. She could have a dairy allergy or intolerance (you need to figure out which part of the dairy - lactose, milk protein, casein, etc) which would have resulted in her initial failure to thrive and would also cause all the symptoms you mention.

(I'm not against GP's or Paeds, but my son went through 10 courses of antibiotics during his first year of life. I finally took him to a homeopath and the next year he had NO antibiotics. We also had to make some temporary dietary changes. He was in the creche the whole time).

I totally second what Antz08 is saying. I doubt that you will have another alternative. Having seen and heard all the negative effects of regular antibiotics and how that actually hampers the immune system from developing, I would suggest that the goal will have to be to get rid of use of regular antibiotic use and you will only be able to do that if you minimize the risk of exposure to contagious diseases at creches.

I can confirm that the times my child were at home during regular holidays she would be perfectly healthy and just a week back at school again and she gets a cold. It is as simple as that. If you have a child with a diagnosed immune system problem even more so.

Hope you find the answers you need. xx

Not sure what you pay for daycare and if you could find a nanny to take care of your child at home for that price but clearly daycare doesnt work for your little one... our paed at Unitas is of the view that no daycare until at least 3 years if it can be helped. That gives their immunity time to develop.

Please investigate other alternative daycare for your child. I know of numerous parents who have been through the same and the doc actually told them to keep their cildren at home. This after numerous hospital admissions, which is what you dont want to happen.

Hi all

I have a 7 and a half month old baby girl, she has been sick for just over two months now.
She does go to daycare which I understand means a runny nose a lot of the time.
But she suffers bouts of fever, runny and congested nose most of the time and the mucus is almost always yellow or green, and she has a very bad cough.
I have had her to two separate doctors, one who said she suffers from hayfever. She has been on a light antibiotic as well as a broad spectrum antibiotic, nether of which made any difference.
Cough mixture does not work at all, this is now the third one I have tried.

When she was six weeks she was submitted to hospital because she was not picking up weight and only weighed 3kg. At that stage the doctor said that she had to be placed in isolation as she had no immune system due to not thriving.

I am starting to worried that immune system has not developed well due to this. Or that there is something else wrong.

Yes babies in daycare do get sick more often, but surely it is not normal for any baby to be sick this long.

Please if anyone has any advice, I am at my ropes end and cant keep giving my little girl medicine that does not work.
