Hi,

I was also diagnosed with pcosa while back, but I always knew something was wrong with me because y periods have never been regular, ever, since I was 14, now 26.

I was put on glucophage, Oh that thing is horrible, however needed to regulate blood sugar. Clomid didn't work for me, 3 inductions that gave me at times 4 eggs didnt work or me neither. To top it all my fertility dr said my husband was a BULL! that surely didnt help because i was hoping we could share in on the "guilt".

After my third attempt at induction, i was told to wait 3 months before a laparoscopy. I stopped taking glucophage because it was making me sick.

I switched to taking suplements that were suggested online, I know it was probably not wise, but I was desperate and i thought herbal supplements wouldnt hurt. I took some saw palmetto extract, B vitamins suplements, L carnithine and some others that I cant remember. My husband thought I was going mad. I also changed my diet, I was more careful with the amount of carbs I was consuming leaning toward a low-GI diet.

Needless to say, about a month later I was pregnant. I am not sure these supplements helped, actually I had completely forgotten about them until now, i call my LO a miracle baby. Just thought I would share these with you guys. lots of people on the internet claim that the supplements really helped them and i know there is a "drug" sold in the US that contains a cocktail of the supplements above and more

Hi there,

I've attached the one pager that the Ayurvedic doctor gave to me. It states the foods that i can have all the time, the foods i can have once in a while and the foods i have to avoid. It is VERY difficult but it's actually working :) Half of the stuff i had to google coz i didn't know what the food was.

I will send the list of meds I'm taking tomorrow.

Hi there,

There's no harm in getting your gynae to check and confirm if you have PCOS or not. When you know the facts, you can take measures to overcome it :)

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2007 (when i was 24 yrs old) but I think i might have developed it earlier because I have had irregular, heavy periods since I was 12 but I always thought it was stress related. When I was 22, I started picking up quite a bit of weight and my acne started getting worse with my periods coming once every couple of months. When I eventually decided to see a gynae, he told me that I have PCOS but he didn't tell me anything else except i must start eating low GI foods and go on the pill (which i did). From 2005 to this year June, I went from 48kgs to just under 70kgs. My facial hair also started growing quite a bit more (especially by my chin) to the point where i was threading every week! I tried dieting and exercising but the food i was eating was not helping and every gynae i went to just told me to lose weight and go on different contraceptive pills and glucophage.

At the beginning of 2010, I decided to go off the pill. My periods carried on regularly until September 2010 where it just stopped. My mom researched about natural therapies and this year June, my husband went to India and got me Ayurvedic medication for PCOS. Every gynae I've been to here in South Africa says that PCOS is incurable and you have to control your diet and weight, etc. The doctors in India however say that it IS curable and while my hubby was at the ayurvedic clinic, he met two ladies who had pcos and now are cured (which gives me hope).

I can't completely vouch for this medicine i'm taking yet because i still have PCOS but I definitely feel a change. The doctor said that it would take 6 months to get rid of the cysts (naturally) and another 6 months to start getting 'good' eggs. I started the medication at the end of June (so it's only been 2 months) but i have gotten my period on time twice and it's not heavy (with hectic clots like before). I have had to change my diet drastically but i figure one year's sacrifice for a lifetime of peace is worth it :) The meds i take are herbal and have no side effects. I no longer feel bloated in the afternoons, I lost 6 kgs in the first two weeks (with no exercise) and i just generally feel better!!

If anyone wants to know about the meds or the eating plan, please let me know and i will share.

Sorry about your loss.

Firstly the inj can cause cycle issus for a year at least so this may be part of the issue and possibly even your weight gain.

Pcos and Endo are two separate issues but you can have both possibly. You would need further blood tests to determine if you have pcos. There are polycystic ovaries and then polycystic ovarian disease. Two different issues so not all polycystic ovaries will cause hormone related issues.

Diseases such as pcos and endo are best to be treated by a good fertility specialist especially if you are wanting to have a baby. This would give you the best treatment from the start and will avoid wasting time.

Just another point to make is that if you are struggling to fall pregnant I can' t stress how important it is for your husband to also have a semen analysis. Many men have issues and sadly the man is often only tested a year or two after the woman has been through many tests some of which are very invasive.

Hi Moomies,

Reading this almost makes me feel as though there is hope!

I was diagnosed with PCO's prior to getting married, but my doc explained that not all women have problems TTC
I was also put on a contraceptive to correct the irregular cycle I was having, as well as Glucophage to lower blood sugar.
I have all the symptoms of PCO's - overweight, facial hair, etc.
I have been losing weight gradually for the past two months, in the hope that this will help.

Huby and I have been married for almost 3 years now, and we recently decided to make a concerted effort TTC. Please can anyone suggest a good gynae possibly in the Cape Town area who will be able to help me?

To all the other PCO moomies.... good luck on your journey, I hope to see you on the other side
