I love reading - and buy tons of books (only because the library keeps withdrawing my membership because I forget to take books back.)

I tend to opt to let kids choose books at the library though - I leave them in the kids section and let them just pick what appeals to them - sometimes you do walk away with some strange books, but there you go.

My favourite range of books besides all the Julia Donaldson's - which I have pretty much all of them is the Hairy MacLary range - it is such a fun range of books for kids and because of the repitition, they can start to finish the lines "as if they are reading."

I have a letter from my pdoc to say I am insane, so tread lightly with me, some days I can be a total bitch. I'm lying. Most days I am a total bitch.

I abhor smiley face icons. Just saying.

I am absolutely in love with The Gruffalo. It is my favourite child book of all time (I did my first teaching lesson on it - so i think it holds a special place in my heart). ;)

But any books from Julia Donaldson (author of Gruffalo) are good and I find that children aged 5 - 10 LOVE them.

FAITH MAKES THINGS POSSIBLE, NOT EASY!

Just ask if you want more titles. I have always been a book worm and read SO many books when I was young, and still do now!

Aaaah Thanks Dominique, I have made a note of those books you suggested and will definitely look for those.

She was really sad when we read the Secret Garden, such a softie. I had to take it out twice it's a FAVOURITE.

If she enjoyed the Secret Garden, then perhaps go for "The little princess" by the same author. I loved it as a child!

You also can't go wrong with Enid Blyton... I particularly recommend the "Faraway tree" series.

I have recently started taking my 5year old to the Library as I found that she became bored with reading the books we have at home.
Does anyone have any suggestions on books to look out for we have thus far read the following:
The Gruffallo
The Gruffallo's Child
Manners(How I should behave)
How I came about(very nice and informative book)
How to deal with stangers
The Secret Garden
Paddington Bear

I normally choose the books, I look at what I think will be interesting and what I wont get bored of reading(LOL). I could read from a very young age so I'm trying to get her into this as well, dont know if I'm too obsessed with it but any suggestions on how to go about it will help. Yesterday I got a simple book for her and she memorised it I was so impressed.... she now believes she can read(LOL).
