Em was SO sick her first 3-4 months of school - but once she got over those first couple months she has hardly been sick, her immune system is great

Just give vitamins - I give Em the gummy vits - multi vitamin - and then during winter add the vit c one to this mix.

I do keep Em home the moment she looks even a little sick, and keep her home 2 days after she is better - just to give her immune system time to boost itself. I also give the poplis vits when she is sick, and zinc.
I'm very lucky to be able to keep her home though.

I know there are some "sick cares" which basically is a crech for sick children - they are kept in seperate rooms, and given fantastic care - for those times you cant take off work, and also cant send your angel to school.

Good luck, and hope it isn't too bad.

Its a 'common' perception that a child at a school will get ill up to 10 times a year.
When K first started in May last year, she was practically sick every 3rd week, sick for a week, okay for a week and then would start getting sick again.
I think its better to take them in summer, there's less germs and a chance to build up her resistance, but getting a cold around other kids who are coughing, playing with same toys etc is unavoidable.

We give Kaylee Omega 3 and Viral Guard. Vidaylin is also a good multivit.
She's been okay since she had her grommets done in August, but she was sick last week which she picked up from the daymom.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

Hi Gracious.

Yes, it is a common problem and I doubt that one will be able to side-step that one if you choose to take your child to a creche/playgroup. Even my doctor told me to expect that my LO will get more sick, that is just the way it is. It is a breeding farm of diseases confined to a small space where they are constantly in close physical contact with each other.

Upon joining the playgroup my LO goes to, I asked the lady what their policy is about sick children. She said that when a child has a green runny nose they must please not come to playschool. I have noticed many kids with green runny noses coming to playschool and have realised that a preschool will have a tough time if it refuses a child to come to playschool when the owner feels it necesary. What I mean is that the policy might be one thing, but it doesn't get enforced. Maybe there are playgroups that are strict about sick children, but I would be surprised to find such a playgroup.

What I find is that if you see your child is fighting something or in the beginning stages of a cold, rather keep your child at home if possible. Give her some time to recover before she gets something more serious while her imune system is down.

This is unfortunenately one of the downsides of taking your child to a creche/playgroup...

Make sure your LO drinks a good multivitamin and probiflora.

best of luck.
