If I may ask - who was your gynae? I'm with Dr Moller and I know (from recommendations as well) that he's brilliant. I am very happy with him so far as he's thorough and you can ask him any type of question!

Now I can't wait for August to arrive whoohoo. Hopefully when I get there they'll have a private room available

I had K in fourways Life in end of September. its a great hospital, had my own private room and nurses were in and out checking in on me. Visitors came in and we had our privacy and they even went out to the garden directly from the door in our room

it is a good hospital ... just got to have good gynae ...thats the main thing

I had both my babies naturally at Life Fourways, a LB n 2008 and then a LG in December last year.

DH and I were both extremely happy with the service and treatment offered and have no compaints at all. The ward wasn't busy either time so we had no issue with the staff, they were all extremely friendly and helpful. They basically left us to it unless we asked for help which suited us, even more so second time round as we knew what we were doing and we wanted to enjoy the special moments alone. When we did ask for help the nurses were extremely forthcoming and helpful, I think their policy might be to let you get on with it unless you ask for assistance, then they are more than willing to assist. The nurses helped me with both LB and LG to get baby to latch for the first time.

Both my LB and LG blood sugar was only taken in the evening (I had both at lunchtime) so I assume this is standard procedure for it to be a few hours after birth but I'm not an expert so I stand to be corrected. My LB had low blood sugar but that was solved with a top up feed so I think it probably depends on circumstances.

I had a private room both times and it was lovely not to have to share a bath and have our family come and visit without interfereing with anyone else.

The only hassle we had was that I gave birth to my LG on a Friday so we were discharged on Sunday and the clinic nurses who do the immunisations aren't there on Sundays so I had to go back to the hospital on Monday to take Nina for her injections but it wasn't the end of the world.

My only reccomendation is if you have natural and decide you want to have an epidural try and arrange something beforehand, first time round I was adament I didn't want one but then labour kicked in and I was begging lol but because we hadn't made any arrangements we were charged as an emergency call out by the anesthetist so for the whole 44 minutes that I had the epidural (I was only in labour for 3 hours in total) it cost R4,400!! Second time round I didn't have an epidural and managed just fine - even though my LG was a monster at 4.13kg

After both our experiences I am happy to reccommend Life Fourways to anyone.

Hi Laliek, I just had my son there on the 17th march. I had a natural birth, laboured in the bath most of the time and also on the excercise ball , which i was happy I could do.

I had a private room as well eventually they were quite busy and it took them about an hour and half before they moved me from labour room to my room.

They were quite understaffed so i cant say i was happy about that and they only ended up coming to check on us 5 hours after lb was born and it turned out he had low blood sugar and had to spend 10 days in the nicu, after agpars had been 9 and 10.

With the exception of that incident I think I would have had a perfect birthing experience because their service after that was spot on.

Overall a good hospital, just hope they are not very busy that day.

Hi Laliek! A friend of mine had her baby and Life Fourways.

She said she loved it! She had a private room with a sliding door onto a garden. The staff was very friendly and helpful and also very accommodating. She only had great things to say about the hospital.
