Breastfeeding is not some thing that you should practice, It is part of nature and should some naturally. Baby will
should instantly to his mother the moment it is born unless complications ie mom has
inverted or flat nipples where u get nipple shields to help
A mom should be relaxed and not be nervous and try tooo hard.
God made us to be mothers and it is all natural

I agree with Memo. The biggest mistake I made was giving my baby formula at 2 weeks because I thought I didn't have enough milk. I probably didn't have, but I should have just tried harder and drank more liquids. After that my baby preferred the bottle, she still does.

Worst advise I got was to have some formula on stand by till my milk came in.. If you want to succeed at bf'ing, dont have any formula in the house

The best (BEST) advise I think I got was to make sure your baby latches on IMMEDIATELY after birth, they just seem to know best at that moment of being born. So as baby comes out, naked is best, put him on your naked self and nurse :)

Anyway, I see I started out saying I love nursing.. these days not so much lol..

It's not nonsense. So ladies do struggle with breasts that bleed. Especially in the beginning your breasts will get sore. Using a cream can help, although it made my breasts too soft and then they hurt even more. A lot of people recommend that you give them some sun to make them stronger (your breasts).

The good thing is, the pain will also go away. You need to keep going, it will get easier, and soon you will even start enjoying it.

I was told not to do anything to prepare my nipples as it could just make it worst (damage your nipples) For the first few times it's a bit uncomfortable but it also depends whether your baby latches on correctly or not. If your baby latches correctly you shouldn't have any problems.

The big thing is to relax and realise that its a new thing for you and baby and that you both will need to learn to do it correctly.

P.S. If you really want to 'prepare' your nipples, you can get your dh to suck on them a bit (a few weeks before you due). It just makes your nipples use to the sucking and saliva. But he mustn't suck on them too long as it can apparently bring on labour....

Good news is... thats nonsense! :)
It's helpful if you have inverted or flat nipples to pull them back out before your baby arrives for a good latch.
If you and baby are doing it right then it will be 100% comfortable.
I would look through the bestfeeding thread, which I'm currently searching for and cant seem to find, will get back to you. We've all posted awesome links and videos that have been helpful.

Also familiarize yourself with la leche league, they are so super helpfull (and free!) and the only authority on bf'ing if you ask me. www.llli.org/southafrica.html

So many people struggle with bf'ing because of bad advise in hospital.
We'll be here if you need help too!
Anyway, I'll get back to you with that thread!

I did so much reading on BF'ing before hand as I was also super worried, I would seriously rather recommend you do some research rather than pulling at your nipples.. My midwife also told me to do this, I didn't and didn't have any problems.
