I didn't get the urge to push.
DUring this stage I was having these HUGE contractions that were basically my body pushing the baby out. THe nurses were telling me NOT to push (my doctor wasn't there yet) and I wasn't - I was just letting my body do what it is meant to do. I was like WTF... what do you mean NOT PUSH, I"m not pushing, my body is naturally contracting intensly and pushing the baby out, I'm just breathing and tensing my muscles slightly (involuntarily) at the onset of a contraction. Eventually my doc arrived while baby was crowing and I was told to push - so I just followed their instruction. The nurses asked me a couple of times earlier if I felt the urge to push and the answer was no... not ever, not at all. And I can bet that if I hadn't even given one forced push, she would have come out by herself. THe velocity of those muscle contractions at that stage were my body's way of pushing her out. I'd say concentrate on your breathing and trying to relax and let your body do what it needs to do, when it needs to do it

. If for some reason you need to speed things up etc, if baby is in distress or something - the doc's/ nurses/ midwives will let you know.
