Flying During Pregnancy

Chantel, I am also planning on travelling over Christmas and my nurse said it was fine to do so (I'll be about 14/15 weeks). I also know people who have travelled on domestic and international flights during their pregnancies (second trimester, I think) and it was not a problem at all.

I can understand your concern as i've never flown myself whilst preggies. But the fact that my cousin flew almost everyday of her 1st trimester & all of the 2nd trimester (and everything is well with baby) shows it should be safe in the 15th week so long as u check with your gynae too.

Can you not miscarry @ about 15 weeks?
I've never been preggie's and so scared of flying whilst I am?

Hi Chantel, I used to work in the reservations office of an airline and the general policy with most airlines are the same.

Expectant mothers may travel up to and including the 27th week of their pregnancy, and will be accepted between the 28th and 34th week on their return flight, if they are in possession of a doctor’s certificate confirming the stage of their pregnancy and that they are fit to fly. You may be allowed like Nicolette to travel at 36 weeks but that is only domestic travel and they will need a dr's note. After 36 weeks, the majority of airlines, do not accept you.

Hi Chantel. I had a problem free pregnancy, and my gynae was happy for me to fly until way into my pregnancy. I flew from Jhb to CT at 36 weeks. I'm sure that this would not apply if you've had any complications. So it's best to check with your gynae. And also it will be different for international flights - I know the airlines can be quite sticky.
