FEMINA is the best - totally different approach to most hospitals. Its all about what's best for baby - the all natural approach! I had the best experince ever - totally natural, no pain meds (no epidural at all), most wonderful birth experience there!

The bonus is that there are no maternity wards - each mother has a private room at no extra costs!

Me: 33
DH: 34
Married: September 2009 - 5 glorious years with my best friend!

First Darling Daughter: July 2010
Second Darling Daughter: January 2013

I will say, Dr Cillie or Dr Hogewind. I do not know them personally, but I know people that are his patients and they all had normal deliveries except my one friend that had complications and they had to do a C-Sec, but that was also in the time that Dr Hogewind was on sick leave, so it was with one of the female doctors.

We went to Pta East for a Maternity ward tour and Boy was I impressed. Their Maternity ward is much nicer than Kloof’s and they have private rooms if you chose to have one. Obviously you pay extra for that. My gyne is Dr Trouw and he is by far the cheapest gyne in Pta. I only pay R271 per visit, except for the two major scans, 12weeks and 20weeks, I paid R650 for those. And according to the Maternity staff at Pta East, a very good dr.

I hope you find a doctor that will help you have the birth you want.

Thanks Everyone.

We're probably going to go for Kloof. Had a brief trip around the three on Saturday and it definitely feels the best. Any good Gynies to recommend? Hoping to have a natural birth (pending complications etc) so would like the doctor to at least appreciate my preference.

Congrats on the Pregnancy.

I had both my children at Femina, I had to pay cash for both and it was the cheapest hospital in that sense.

If you have the option. look around, I hear Kloof is a very good hospital, If I had another child (which I most definately wont), I wouldnt return to Femina, the ward sisters are not the most helpful although the theater sister and pre birth sisters were great. My gyne was also based there and came highly recommended and I didnt want to change to another gyne, thats why I had the second baby there as well.

I would recommend Kloof. I was there with my first baby, and I was very happy. I had a very difficult first pregnancy, so I was in hospital three times during my pregnancy and I was happy every time. I even had my baby shower there.

The only thing is, the doctors there is very Pro C-sec. Especially the female doctors. My gyne moved to Australia and the gyne in his place didn’t want to allow a Vbac. That is why we decided to get another gyne and because we moved to the east of Pta, we decided to go to Pta east. If you want a normal delivery, I will recommend go to one of the male gyne’s at Kloof, or otherwise try Femina. I don’t know how there Maternity ward is, but my friend went there and she was very happy.

Good luck with you pregnancy

Kloof is also a fantastic hospital. Havent had the pleasure of being in their maternity ward, but my little boy has had all his op's there and the nurses are just awesome, they are of a completely different standard to any other hospital I have ever been to.

One of my colleague's wife just had their baby girl there as well and they also said - amazing

Hi Mckkim,

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I would strongly reccommend you look at the Midwifes led birth centre at Femina Hospital. It is next to the hospital but run as a part of it. There you can get the best of both worlds, the expert care of a midwife and a gynie backing you up and doing all your scans. Go look at midwives-exclusive.com.

Enjoy your pregnancy!!
