New Mummies HELP! Rate at Panorama Hosp?

I went to Panorama- Discovery covered most of the expenses. We had to pay my doc R2200 over the 8 months or so we were seeing him which would cover the short fall. And we were told should we make use of the aneasthatist (sp) it would be R1500. The hospital stay was totally covered.

Hospital rates are usually negotiated by the medical scheme.
With Discovery, they cover 2 nights, 3 days for a normal delivery, and 3 nights, 4 days for a C/section. This means that DH has negotiated global fee for these ervices, and anything related to your confinement will be covered.
The rate covered that is mentioned, is usually for doctors, or other disciplines, e.eg physio, that might see you in hospital.
Call DH client services and they will give you an auth number, and will also explain what I have just said.
It would also be good to confirm that your plan allows you to go to that specific hospital, however if I remember correctly, this should not be a problem. I do however stand under correction.

Its hard to tell for sure, but with only 100% cover I would definitely recommend going for gap cover - as far as I know its less than R100/month and will save a lot of stress down the line, especially for hospital stays.

Fedhealth cover 200% and I've never had to pay a cent for some very expensive hospital stays for my daughter.

Your gynae will be able to give you a detailed breakdown of their costs.
You can also ask them for costs of the anaethetist and paed (and sometimes an anaethetist will charge twice or three times depending on if you get an epidural, spinal block etc.

I birthed at Panorama and they have a sheet available with pricing on it.
You can also check with discovery if they cover full rates for this hospital or not - but remember that for specialists it will be different.
Again, with my 200% cover I never paid a cent for my c/sec birth.
Most gynae's charge you for 2 scans which most medical aids cover.
But they charge between R400 - R600 per consultation (Its been a while so forgive me if I'm wrong) which will come from savings, but if the doctor is part of discoveries approved specialists they may cover it in full - check with discovery if this gynae is on their list.

I birthed at panorama and it was a good experience. Their paed ward is also really really nice.

I am currently with Remedi (Discovery) Comprehensive.
Until now, they are quite good with our covers for specialists / doctor visits.

However, most of my cover are mostly 100% Discovery Health Rate. So how is it compared to the market rate????
Would like to see if i need any Gap Cover - to cover the rest of the payment if it's too high.

My medical aid covers
Hospital accomodation - Unlimited at 100% Discovery Health Rate
Confinement - 100% Discovery Health Rate
Hospital and surgical material / equipment - 100% Discovery Health Rate
Specialist - 150% of Discovery Health Rate
Pregnancy (scan/pregnancy-related testa and antenatal consultations) - 100% Discovery Health Rate


Reason for this thread is to find out more or less how much is it (before your medical aid cover) to
1. Hospital stay at Panorama
2. Pregnancy visit (planning for Dr. Marie Pienaar)
3. Delivery (vaginal and caesaerian)
4. Anesthetics / drugs / etc
5. More or less how much do you have to pay with / without medical aid.
