file The effects of ultrasounds

Claudia, what irks me is that this research is out there yet doctors don't tell us this stuff when they do the ultrasounds.

I've had quite a few ultrasounds done during this pregnancy, mostly because of medical concerns and I would do them again if I had to but I do believe in informed consent.

@ Firefly, most countries only do 2 scans as routine. I only had 2 last time (I told my gynae I didnt want more) and will onlyhave 2 this time. To be honest althouh reasonably safe, when docs say the baby doesnt feel anything they are outright lying because a) how the hell do they know - up until fairly recently doctors also thought that babies didnt feel pain.
2) I find it strange how most foetuses will try move away from the u/s

I wouldnt worry too much though - I actually think that most docs do the u/s because they've forgotten how to do foetal palpation to check babies position and dont own dopplers anymore:)

Hi everyone

I recently came across this link via hypnobabies : chriskresser.com/natural-childbirth-iib-...-as-commonly-thought

It's an article looking at the evidence surrounding ultrasounds which I thought people might find interesting. (The conclusion is basically that there are conflicting studies suggesting harm and no harm)

Something I have noticed here in the USA is that there are generally only 2 ultrasounds done during pregnancy, one at 12 weeks (for downs) and one at 20 weeks (for an anatomy scan). Unlike my gynae in SA, my doctors here do not have ultrasound machines in their rooms and apart from these two ultrasounds, will only order an ultrasound if they suspect a problem.
