It's all your choice at the end Tyarah. You must write your birthplan out clearly and state what you want/don't want and if you want no interventions that private or public it needs to be respected. I know plenty of people that have had their desired natural, intervention free birth only because they persisted. If it were up to the medical staff they would have it all according to a set of rules that they write up to make life easier for them. Check out this hilarious cheezy You Tube video I came across this week. Wish some hospitals and staff would also watch it.

Hi Tyarah,

I did Hypnobirthing, had a wonderful experience, my baby was a big girl 3.71 Kg's but no major tears, no forceps etc, I did need an episiotomy, but I believe these are now mostly common practice in hospital and I had no pain afterwards, never took a single pain killer and was up and walking around 3 hour after the birth. I will definitely do it the same next time, but looking at a birth clinic rather than hospital

My Gynea was starting to push me at 37 weeks to break waters etc and eventually I had such a terrible visit with him ( he told me to stop being ridiculous about this natural birth stuff and it ended with me in tears) that I changed Dr's 3 days before my little girl arrived at 38 weeks, best decision I ever made !

If you don't trust what your Dr says and you feel they are pushing you towards what they want, change Dr's its a service you are paying for.

Maybe chat to your current Dr about your previous birth and what you want from this birth and see if you cant come to a mutual understanding, From my experience, when its a private hospital you have to take charge of your birth or chances are you wont get the birth you want.

Wow! Thanks for your response, Niki! It's just shocking how these hospitals are intervention happy, like we're going to die from the pain or it's wrong to be feeling it in the first place.

From what you're saying, your doctor also tried to get you to have interventions, "big baby" and all. How was your birth experience? Did you feel bad vibes from your OB? Or she just let it go?

I'm going for my check up this Thursday, I wonder if he's still say my baby is still "big"?

Hi,

I had my little girl at Sandton Medi Clinic, when I booked my bed at about 6 months, they wanted me to book the epidural at the same time, as is seems a standard practice in private hospitals.

I refused to book, I wanted a natural birth, with no intervention, My Dr also went on and on about Baby being too big, she wasn't I managed the labour without intervention.

I found out what was available , decided what birth I wanted and stuck with that plan, knowing that the epidural etc would be there if I needed it in the end, but I didn't want to just go ahead with the interventions for no reason.

Good luck

Hi ladies. I'm having my 2nd baby, my first I had him at a public hospital and labour was ok, no interventions, just plain ol' labour. Now this time I'm delivering at a private hospital and my OB is already taking about inducing if baby is too big, which is utter nonsense. And I hear that a lot of mothers opt for an epidual in these better facilities, and also that the c-section rate is terribly high. Who of you have had these interventions and why? If you don't mind sharing...! I just want to know what to expect. I'm delivering in Unitas Hospital at Centurion. Thanks for you input :)!
