Hi RG1...

Congrats on your BFP!

I am with Doc Newham @ Kingsbury hospital. Dr Dhansay is opposite, and he is quite expensive, because not only is he a gynae/ob, he is a fertility specialist. He is based at the cape fertility clinic and all docs there have exorbetent rates!
My friend and his wife are seeing Dr Dhansay, and he says that dhansay is very nice and timid. A very respectable doc.
Seeing as you are seeing a doc in the area, why don't you check the Kingsbury website for a list of theeir docs?
Good docs I know of @ Kingsbury:
Dr Paula Penkin
Dr Jansen - Olarugun
Dr Newham

You may want to call around to check rates. Also, check with your medical aid what they cover.
I now with Dr Newham you pay cash, and claim back, but his fees are not too bad

Good luck!

Hi there - I have never heard of Dr Dhansay so I can't comment there. There are a number of great gynaes in the Southern Suburbs - I could give you a list of them - but I have no idea about who charges what rates. Perhaps you could call Discovery and ask them to send you a list of "approved" gynaes -and then share the list here with us, and then we can tell you who we think is the best on the list. Also - each gynae will have a "designated" hospital - so if you are keen on having your baby in a specific hospital - then you'd need to find out which gynaes work there. Remember you also have a option of going the midwife route - if I was you I would definitely look at their prices too - look at www.birthoptions.co.za - they are in Plumstead. Please don't hesitate to ask more questions or to ask for more advice on this - we all love sharing our experiences!

Hi ladies

I found out last week I'm 4 weeks pregnant :) . I'm in my 5th week now and my GP suggested I make an appointment now with a gynae for my 12 week visit and scan as they are booked up months in advance.
I saw a gynae for the first time two months ago for a pap smear and for a general chekc up. I'm not sure if I should see him now for the rest of the pregnancy as I've heard his rates for birth can be quite high. It's doctor Dhansay in Claremont.

Do you ladies have any suggestions for a gynae in the Claremont or even Cape Town area?
I'm with Discovery med aid and we don't want to pay thousands back. But i can't seem to find any gynae's who will charge Discovery rates.

It's all so daunting! :S

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks ladies! :)
