question-circle sex during problematic pregnancy

I can completely relate. It's TOUGH to say the least. I have an incompetent cervix. And with this pregnancy I haven't had any since two days after our IUI and that was almost 14 weeks ago
I help hubby out but that is also really tough on me because we are human to get aroused too. Only with helping him I get no "pleasure" because I have to stop right before I would normally climax. It's TOUGH but worth it.
Huggles is right, sperm can trigger labor and since you have had preterm labor I am sure you are on complete pelvic rest and that includes no sexual activity. Orgasms unfortunately is like a contraction and can therefore trigger your preterm labor again.

I would check with your doctor (get hubby to ask if you are too shy). But try and keep baby baking some more. Once baby is born you and hubby can catch up ;)

"Some midwives and doctors will recommend having sex to jumpstart early labor, as sperm contains prostaglandins, which can ripen the cervix. What's more, if you orgasm, your body releases oxytocin, the bonding hormone, which causes contractions. " - www.parentsconnect.com/pregnancy/labor-a..._bring_on_labor.html

In a healthy uncomplicated pregnancy sex is fine and won't start anything before your body is ready. But if you've already gone into premature labour twice I personally wouldn't risk it.

I would say don't.

Semen contains the same chemical/hormone that they use to induce labour - it causes the cervix to soften.

If you absolutely cannot refrain then use a condom, and as Deja said, be gentle. Do not climax/orgasm as those muscle contractions etc might also start labour.

I have an incompetent cervix and therefore had to have a cervical stitch put in with my pregnancy. I was told very clearly no sex allowed. Not because of potential infection, but because it can start labour.

Hi Anelda

I know the feeling. :-)

I'd say best is to talk to your gynae but if you really don't want to, I am sure it will be fine, just be "gentle". ;)

Hi Ladies,

I want a bit of advice, but I also want to ask dont be mean in your comments.

Background:
I am currently 31 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby, with my 2nd one I was admitted to hospital 2 for premature labour but they stopped labour and he was eventually born at 38 weeks. With this one I have also now been admitted twice, first at 29 weeks and again over the weekend also for premature labour. they have also stopped it both times and the doc sent me home yesterday with a cough syrup "venteze".

I now have the following question, and I need advice:

I keep being well I don't really know what the right word is... I keep feeling "horney" when I see huby I just want to have sex, at night I can't sleep because my body just "needs" him, however I'm afraid that if we do I will go into premature labour again.

I am too shy to ask my doctor if we can have sex, but as far as I can see on the net its better to refrain from any sexsual activities.

I cant even hug hubby with out getting aroused

Any advice ladies, please I'm desperate to figure out what I can and cannot do.
