Hi Lama. I've heard that Biltong is also a no no.
I know mentioned is also soft serve ice cream and deli meats. These all can contain a bacteria called listeria, which can cause miscarriage and fetus infection.

Thanks!

Luckily I HATE sushi, so that's ok. But what about Biltong? (even if it's very dry)?

Also, what if the specific soft cheese is made with pasteurized milk - still no go?

Oh crap on the liver and luckily I don't see "afval" as a food group. Gross.
Fizzy drinks and sweeteners aren't part of my diet, so overall I think I'll be ok.

Lastly - how TF do I change my profile pic?!? LOL

I eat exactly what my body tells me it needs. But ja, Blouoogmeisie's list is very easy and simple to follow.

With my first pregnancy, I avoided almost everything, second one I was more lenient and now I eat just what I feel like. But I must say my general feel is everything excluding the list mentioned here.

Morning
Not an exhaustive list, but here are some guidelines.

Raw fish (sushi) is a no no. The fact is that all meat you have, fish, chicken, pork, beef, etc. needs to be very thoroughly cooked to kill all the bacteria in it. So no rare steak and no sushi binges whilst you have a baby on board.

Also, soft cheeses - Camembert, brie, blue cheese - a no go zone. Again, the bacteria angle is just too high. Gynea said it probably wouldn't do harm if you snuck a bite veeery seldom, but I'm the type that will finish the cheese plate by myself, so no cheesy for me :( .

Try and avoid fish with high levels of mercury - tuna and hake are fine, but you can find a lot about that on the internet.

Vitamin A needs to be limited - no liver for you whilst your pregnant (and please, no "afval"...even when you're not pregnant that should never be a meal option, hehehe :P ). Try getting your vitamin A from veggies instead - carrots and broccoli are good sources.

Lastly - try and stay away from fizzy drinks and artificial sweeteners. They are not only bad for you, but don't help with the inevitable weigh gain ;) .

Enjoy the pregnancy, when you see that little baby dance for you on the sonar, every thing you are disallowed becomes a non issue.

Hi,

I wanted to find out what everyone's opinion is regarding foods / drinks to avoid during pregnancy?

Which are an actual threat to baby and which are just overrated?

Obviously alcohol and cigarettes are a NO NO, but what else?
