Hi everyone!

And thank you so much for the stunning responses. Sorry for not replying, I almost forgot about the post I left while going on the pregnancy ride.

Yesterday I hit the 19 week mark and everything is smooth sailing up to now. I have been to the information session with the midwives and they re-assured me completely about being overweight and able to have a healthy natural birth. I have been seeing a OB at Femina (one of the 2 working with the midwives I consulted with) and next week would be my last visit at the OB for a while, as I am then going into the care of the midwives.

Baie dankie vir jou boodskap Goggatjies! Dit stel my baie gerus.

Hallo Anna,

I understand your fear, I found out yesterday that I am 7/8weeks pregnant with my second. But I am so careful to say anything because so much can still happen.

I however was with ( I think) a great gynie. I already phoned to set up my first appointment for new little one. I can think of no one else I would rather go to.

Hi,

I am very overweight and is now pregnant with my 3rd child
Had both my kids with a midwife and I did not have any problems
They will pick up problems in your urine tests and in you blood pressure
I prefer the midwife route, due to them being more concerned and they take their time with you, and do not rush your appointment, they will not put you or your baby in danger and will tell you to go see a gynie if they are concerned.

I went to my back-up gynie yesterday, just for routine check up, and today I had to do a Glucose test, it is just to check for diabetes, but everything should be fine,

I am in Johannesburg and will give birth at Genesis, my midwife is part of the Growth-Spurt group
I know Genesis now have a policy that if your BMI is above 40, that you can not give birth there, but I can because I had my previous baby there.

Hey Anna

Congrats on the pregnancy.
My sister in law was extremely overweight, her first two pregnancies were fine but her last one she got preclampcia (not sure on spelling!!) and my niece was born a few weeks early, but she is now a very healthy unstoppable teenager!

Going to a gynae is probably your best bet, they will monitor your blood pressure and sugar at all your appointments.

You will probably loose a bit of weight when the morning sickness hits!!

Good luck with your pregnancy!

Hi!

I recently (less than a week ago) found out that I am pregnant. I am now 4 weeks and 3 days, so just at the beginning of the journey. It is my very first pregnancy and the second month of TTC. All of this still feels very unreal, even more so because it happened so quickly.

Something inside me keeps telling me not to get excited cause anything can still happen. Will probably feel like that until I see the little dot for the first time on a sonar.

My main concern however is that I am very overweight. I have not chosen a caregiver yet and have an appointment at Midwives Exclusive in 3 days for a general info session on my options.

Is there anyone on here that has gone through or is going through a pregnancy as an overweight/obese mommy to be? Or does anyone know of a specific caregiver/s in Pretoria that specialises in bigger mommies?
