gynae/OB first consultation fees

Hi leeina1,

R1000+ seems to be the standard rate for most 1st time consultations in JHB. (for private practices)

I'm with Dr Packirisamy at Wilgeheuwel Life Hospital. (Randpark Ridge)
She charges R1300.00 for the first consultation and R800.00 per follow-up.
My friends to the North of JHB are facing the same costs (if not slightly more)

I just discovered that I'm pregnant with my second child and I'm 6 weeks now. I just wanted to find out if anyone here knows of a good gynae/Ob that doesn't charge more than R1000 for the first consultation fee.I know that after the first consultation doctors normally start charging normal medical aid rates which of course is paid by the medical aid but the doctors at nectare linkwood are charging me R1500 for the first consultation and I thinks that's ridiculous. I stay in Johannesburg north and would prefer one around that area. I need help as I will be going in for my first seven weeks scan soon.thanks(I'm on GEMS medical aid)
