Femina all the way!
I'm currently here. My twinnies was born at 33 weeks, last week and everything here is great!
very pro natural and breatfeeding.
NICU is outstanding and even though no-one plans on having there baby ending up there, it is an important factor to consider!
Good luck

Fulufhelo,
I can also highly recommend the midwives unit at Femina. You can phone Midwives-Exclusive to find out who their back up gynies are and make an appointment with one of them. I know most of their back-up team practices from Eugene Marais hospital and only goes to Femina when the Midwive-unit needs an OB at a birth for some reason.

Hi Fulufhelo,

I can save you a lot of time since I have done my homework on this recently.

Although there are gyneas that are pro-natural or willing to allow you to have a normal delivery (Like DR. Maria Davis) I am not so sure that Unitas is such a great hospital if you are planning a "very natural" birth. In my opnion Unitas hospital and staff still functions with a strong medical approach which is quite different from Femina or Genesis clinic for example.

I do believe your caretakers and hospital environment will to a certain extent determine the type of birth that you will have and if you plan to do a natural birth with minimal interventions I would recommend you find people who will support you 100% all the way in this.

I am currently with Dr. Swart at Femina hospital and was really happy with him and he answered all my silly questions with such patience. However if you do use him, you will be using the Femina hospital staff and not Midwives exlusive birthing facility. To use the Midwives birthing facility (amazing!!) you must use the midwives from there and there recommended backup doctors (Dr. Swart is not one of them).

Perhaps have a tour of the hospital and the birthing facility (Midwives exclusive) and then decide.

PS: I am driving through from Centurion to Femina - about a 25 min trip.

Hi there Fulu

I cant recommend anyone in Centurion... But Femina Clinic - a 25minute drive from Centurion - has an awesome birthing unit...

The gynaes there are also pro-natural...

I live in Centurion and would choose Femina any day over any other hospital. I had Both my daugthers there and had a wonderful natural birth, drug-free!

All the best with your search.
