Down Syndrome Screening

Pillpusher, the doctor just means that whilst your blood results are fine, she still has to look at your baby on the ultrasound to check for heartbeat etc etc etc. Blood results only check for certain things. So don't worry about it, first go for the ultrasound

Does anyone have any advice for me? I had blood tests done after my 8 week scan and am only going for the ultrasound in two weeks. I called my gynae to ask about the blood test results and unfortunately her call went straight to voicemail when she phoned back.
She said that all the blood tests looked fine (iron studies, diseases, etc), but said that as far as the screening tests go that the results aren't valid without the ultrasound...
Now my brain is working in overdrive trying to figure out whether she's just being cautious because the results should go together or whether the blood tests already show an abnormality and she just doesn't want me to stress out before the ultrasound results Does anyone have any experience in this regard?

well it came out of my MSA as it was part of the routine blood tests they do at various check ups.
So technically i paid for it, but yes the medical aid covered it.
The panaroma test would also have come out of my MSA but at R10700 we decided not to do it

@GwenAnn... So your medical Aid did cover the screening. Oh the lady I spoke to at Discovery was totally clueless!!

Same here, the routine blood tests were about R1000 and the scan was part of my normal check up.
BUT we were told about a new screening test - just a blood test - that is 99% accurate and the cost of that was R10700
We didn't have that done because my medical aid wouldn't cover it.
The normal tests have so far all come back clear.
Why don't you call your medical aid and ask them what they cover?

It depends on the doctor? My screening was R1000 for the scan, but you also have to have the blood tests done.
