My cycle had been out of whack. After going off the pill I had cycles which were almost 6 weeks in duration follwed by exactly 4 week cycles for four consecutive cycles. Then I thought I'd settled on a five week cycle before getting thrown out of whack by a SEVEN week cycle

I'd thought that maybe something was happening, but HPT was negative when I tested 5 days before Aunty Flo arrived.
When I visited my gynae for a check up at the beginning of February she thought that my ovaries looks a bit polycystic and she didn't think I was ovulating regularly, casting doubts on conceiving soon.
A week later, I woke up during the night with extreme pain in my lower abdomen. It blurred my vision and made me feel nauseous

I skipped work and saw a GP who thought I might have appendicitis. When the pain didn't resolve later in the day, my husband and mother forced me to go to the emergency room. The doctor was going to send me for X-rays when I asked if an ectopic pregnancy was possibly the problem. Assuming that my cycle had been a perfect four weeks, I was one day late.
Instead of peeing on a stick, I peed into a cup and went back to lie down on the bed in my cubicle, my husband there to hold my hand. I was injected for my pain and I waited. The doctor walked into the cubicle and announced that the pregnancy test was positive

My husband just about kept his balance as the waves of excitement and joy broke over him

.
We went to see my gynae the next day to confirm that my little one had implanted in the right place.
I wrote a blog about the experience:
