Hi ladies.
Mr price has quite a nice range of maternity wear at ver affordable prices. The only problem is that not many stores stock it but you can buy it online. I recently bought a maxi dress and some shirts and they are really cheap. Also delivery is fast.

Hi Ladies,

I like the idea of making own wear. As it turns out, I have a sewing machine and an overlocker. :P

If I have to buy, then I will buy bigger sizes.

Thank you Ladies!

Hi Fynbos

I agree with Zaza2011 and Lauz. I just bought leggings and tops a size or two bigger. I find my maxi dresses have also been great since there's still a lot of room to accommodate the bump. Otherwise loose fitting, flowing tops have also been great (and a lot of them are still a size I would normally wear).

Hi Fynbos

Have you tried not just buying a size or two bigger than your norm, instead of maternity wear?

These sometimes work out cheaper and you can still shop wear you normally buy clothes from.

Or is there any particular maternity item you thinking off that you think only maternity wear has?

I just bought a few tops and wrap dresses a size or 2 larger and still using my normal parks and leggings, but have the preggy belt to continue using my normal pants, worked out a lot more cheaper.

Hi Fynbos,

Yes it really is a struggle to get nice maternity wear. I am on the short stubby side, so I struggled to find clothes even before I was pregnant. I also do not like spending money on clothes so the idea of spending R450 of any item for just 4 - 6 months wear was just terrible.

We ended up making all my maternity clothes (with the exception of a few R80 over sized long sleeves from accermans).

We found the following patterns to be very nice:
www.simplicity.com/c-868-maternity-wear.aspx

For my pants we used: B7165 Burda Style Pants
We just made some changes to the pattern ito losing the top fabric band and changing the top belly cover to not be double but extended it higher and used and elastic to fasten it (similar to store maternity pants)

The pants ended up costing around R150 - R180 each to make. I am still wearing pants that were made at 10 weeks and I am now 27 weeks.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fynbos,

We had this discussion in our group just the other day. Mr Price and Truworths both stock Maternity clothes, Truworths is pretty pricey considering its a chain store but their clothes are pretty awesome whereas Mr Price have some decent and not so decent wear at a very reasonable price.

I have found some really awesome maternity wear on Zando and decently priced as well, only downfall is its an online store so no luck in trying the clothes on to see how it fits or not.

Your other option is to invest in leggings and just buy sizes a little bit bigger, and for me the cheapest option is those lovely chinese stores, at least it can always be worn after baby when you still losing the weight you picked up.

good luck ;)

Thanks so much.
