Lauz I feel your pain!

My documents were submitted to UIF Baby Benefits Feb 2016 as soon as my baby was born I sent through the birth certificate, since then one payment of R1200.

1st excuse the KZN office's had flooding and then a fire. Now the excuse are they cannot find my claim.

I have phoned myself so that I can do it all myself and guess what A BACK LOG. Does these people not work.

NEVER EVER USE AN AGENCY IT'S A MESS

Good afternoon Ladies,

STK I am very happy to hear that you were paid out so quickly. You are the fortunate ones that didn't get stuck in last years mess where they changed systems and updated their systems etc.

Esther if you look at my post I was asking about the agencies and if anybody else received the same thing. I actually did my UIF on my own in 2012 and was extremely happy with their service, this time round it's been a total nightmare.

Take note this was done last year, all paperwork was submitted and if you would like a screen shot I have been sitting with birth certificate scanned from the 18/02/2016 and then the next correspondence of completed by assessor since 8/05/2016 and even taking matters into my own hands I haven't been paid out a cent. This is the timeframe I am experiencing!

I will also put it up on here that I have a fellow colleague who was fully paid out in April after submitting her forms in January (she went into the UIF) I have other fellow Moomie friends that have had luck with their first payments but not the rest, so two people have been fortunate enough to be paid out in full, a few partially and a few are in my boat where no payment has been made.

I think you are too quick to judge. This post was to be informative, so people are aware of the changes in the use of Agencies. It so happened that had it not been for my thread STK wouldn't have posted her good side to her claim and you wouldn't have had the info to go through George.

Good luck future moms I'm sure the process is very different now compared to last year!

Thank you so much STK for your information and advice. I will definitely contact the George UIF office if I need help. I need to do my maternity claims from October and am delighted to know that I can expect a sizeable financial input from the UIF.

I am always concerned agencies - their fees and if they are really submitting documents on time and correctly on behalf of their clients.

I figure that if the ladies are able to chat on this forumn, they are techno savvy enough to register themselves as UIF agents and do their own maternity claims. And the sooner one gets the correct information submitted to UIF, it seems the sooner one will get a payout. One is then in control and can follow up to check progress, etc.

I ran a business for a few years and took over our Labour (including UIF and Compensation Fund), Department of Trade and Industry and SARS efiling after our accountants messed up with our tax submissions. I had to go through such a process of making affidavits, submitting to SARS and backfiling, that I learnt a bit of the processes involved. From there I learnt how to do many things myself at no additional cost.

One must just be prepared to read and follow the instructions. The information is all out there on the Internet and the government websites. I think sometimes as South Africans we complain too soon.

Hi, just want to add my 2cents.

I went on maternity leave 1st March, and only submitted my UIF application 22nd March. My application was approved on 17 May and I received my 1st payment 20 May. The very next working day I submitted my form for 'continuation of payment' and received a lump sum (the rest of the monies) on 26 May. I must say I cant complain about the UIF services. If you make sure that all your documentation is 100% then the process should be painless. In total I received +-20k from UIF which isn't bad at all considering over the 3months I was +-24k short on my salary.

@MommywannaB - my advice is call the George UIF department - from my experience they are the only offices that answer their phone and that are helpful. They will be able to check your 'UIF status' and whether you can submit your next 'continuation of payment' form. Best of luck - just hang in there.

Hi Lauz,

It's a total mess!

I have only received one payment so far. I am due back at work 4 July and the people doing my UIF said I shouldn't expect to get another payment before that.

I feel sorry for those who rely on Maternity UIF.

The information the agency provided seems perfectly standard. No-one can claim for UIF if company records don't clearly state that you are employed, have resigned, etc. It is easy to register as an agent of UIF on the Department of Labour website. I did this years ago to record and pay my helper's UIF. However, even if you are an agent and want to put in a claim, your Human Resources people need to have done their job properly. Normally when you resign from a company they must give you a UIF record. I would advise all ladies who want to claim UIF to check with their organisations (past and present) to make sure this has been done.

Alternatively contact the UIF and give them your ID to check your records:
UIF Telephone Number(s): 012 337 1700 (Switchboard)
012 337 1680 (Call Centre)
0800 843 843/0800 UIF UIF (Call Centre)
Just a warning that you may wait very long for someone to answer the phone.

Or email them: uifcomplaints@labour.gov.za(but again, be prepared for a bit of a wait).
