Hi soon2bemommy2 :)

Thank you for your reply! I highly appreciate it and it's quite a relief that there's someone out there that shares these same concerns. That's exactly right, they try to encourage your partner to agree with them, like they're ganging up on you and you then feel like the crazy pregnant hormonal creature that doesn't know what's good for her.

I have been thinking about it and inquiring into other gyneas - however the problem is that it's quite expensive to start again with a new gynea - they have initial fees and follow up fees etc.. I'm thinking maybe it will be best to stick with the current one I have..

Let's see what happens.. Thank you again for your message..
Keep well! :)

Hi Ina
I think you are spot on. I feel exactly the same way about a relationship with a gynae – especially the first time around when you don’t know what to expect. You need to be able to ask “stupid” questions, more than once even! With my first pregnancy, I left my first gynae at 26 weeks because she was also like that. As much as she was a brilliant doctor, I felt like she was a bully and made her opinion fact. And she would try to convince my husband to take her views as well “if he knew what’s good for us” as she would say.

So I changed doctors. It was important for me to have a trusting relationship. I knew what kind of birth experience I wanted (God allowing) and because I didn’t know what I would be feeling or going through during labour, I wanted to rest assured that I have a team of people who support my wishes and who would encourage and remind of me my plan. Not take advantage of the situation to pursue their own agenda.

So if you feel strongly about it, I think you should go with your gut feeling and change doctors if you must.
I unfortunately can’t recommend a gynae at Sandton Medi Clinic. My only experience there is with a a male gynae who I wouldn’t recommend. Also a very nice guy but I feel he’s not as thorough as I would like and also appears to lack interest in his patients so he wouldn’t discuss and allay your concerns. I ended up changing gynaes and hospitals altogether during my second pregnancy.

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a good gynecologist (preferably female) at Sandton Medi-Clinic? I currently go to Dr. Baker but I'm not really happy with him. He strikes me as a bit of a bully. Each time I ask a about something that he disagrees with, he makes his opinion a fact and tries to talk me out of it in a subtly sarcastic tone. I don't know, maybe he is a good doctor, but I think it's also important that I feel comfortable with my Gynecologist and not feel anxious to ask "stupid" questions. I mean this is the person who is going to bring my first born into this world..

I heard about a Dr. S Moodley, who is in the adjacent building to the clinic from a friend who recommended her. I also read people recommending Dr. Koll at the clinic. I'm really not sure who to trust anymore, because Dr. Baker was recommended by a friend of mine, and I don't like him. Am I just being overly emotional or are my concerns important? I just think that the birth will be such an overwhelming experience, I don't want to have to go through it with someone like that..

Please help... :(
