It's not only what the Dr communicates but also how he communicates it. Simple down to earth explanation like yours make sense than him talking over my head!

I agree with the others. Dont have a birth that your gynae wants. Have a birth that YOU want.

Go for a second opinion and see if the fibroids are really big enough to have an effect on a natural birth.

There must be a doctor somewhere that will be able to help.
Call the hospital and speak to them, tell them your dilemma without giving your gynae's name and see if they have options for you

Okay so if there is good reason for a c section then I would go with that, but the fact that you must mention it is due to a small pelvis is shocking and already raises the red flag.

Please find another gynae. One at another hospital. Get your file from your current gynae and tell him you are going for a second opinion. These doctors need to start learning that we have a voice and will use it. It is never too late.

If I were a mom in your shoes I would send a report to the council. Firstly it is fraud to give false information to the mecial aid and secondly it is a total lack of consideration for a paitent's wishes which should be upheld at ALL times even though he may not agree with you. It is his duty to inform you of ALL possible risks and then to carry out your wishes and he must support you or refer you to another colleague. You are paying for a service. If this was your car you would go elsewhere.

Your relationship with him is flawed now and you will not trust him. I can assure you that if you don't stick to your guns you will have regret it afterwards. Not the birth but the fact that you were not your own advocate.

If I seem annoyed it is because I am totally upset by how gynaes are treating moms at the moment.

With fibroids it's highly advisable to have a c-section at 38 wks. You might have had it easy last time but vaginal birth is a chance i personally would not take in that situation. Fibroids might make it difficult for baby to pass through the birth canal leading to foetal distress, hence the small pelvis category. As for not liking your doctor, it's quite common, i also changed my doc at 35 wks

Sjoe Amanda, you are in a really tight spot, especially with you being 36 weeks already. My advice to you is to listen to your gut feeling about your doctor. There is always a way out even if you are at your last. I suggest you call Pta East and found out if there is anyone else that can help you. The fact that he wants you to lie to your medical aid about the C-section must have raised red lights with you. He is supposed to be the one to write the letter to the medical aid stating why you should have a c-sec. Get to work on it immediately, cause the birth should be special and as close to what you want.

I didn't like my doc either and she made sure I had a terrible delivery!

I am losing sleep over this! I am 36 weeks pregnant and I dont like my Dr! Everything is his way. I want to deliver in Pretoria East, he insisted on Unitas. I want vaginal birth, he says due to my fibroids it has to be ceasarean.
I want baby delivered at full term, he says no it must be at 38 weeks. I want then the baby to be delivered first thing in the morning, his diary is open at 11:00.

For the authorisation number for ceaserean he said I must say the reason is I have a small pelvis. My pelvis is big enough, I delivered a 3.6kg boy previously in 2.5 hours just fine! That's what confirmed this is not about me and the baby. Am I just a business transaction to be sloted conveniently in his schedule?
What are my alternatives?
