Anyone with Dr Mia at Genesis?

Joli, you are going to struggle to get it much cheaper in Jhb. As far as I understand that is the going rate. My cousin went to a gyni at Olivedale who charged her R1200 for the first visit and R880 for every visit after that. If you only see him twice during your pregnancy, it might be worth it to just pay up...

I see my gyni once every 4 / 5 weeks and he charges medical aid rates (R240) but my medical doesn't pay for it at all. So its working out more in the long run... With the delivery, you shouldn't have a problem, as you already had 2 uncomplicated births. So the chances of you needing him is slimm. But if you save up that money in advance for incase, you'll have it to spend on baby if you don't need it.

THX Girls. I did get an appointment for 6 October but now found out that he is charging R800 for the main visits (first, 12 weeks, 20 weeks etc.) and R460 for other visits. That's a bit hectic for me. It also seems that you need to pay in about R2500 if he delivers your baby naturally - over and above what the medical aid pays him. I can't afford that. I've got about R3000 left in my medical savings so there won't be any left if I have to see him

He is one of the only doctors that supports home birthing. so definitely a GREAT option.

Take the 6 of October. Dont even think about it. Just call back and book. Next thing you'll think about it for 2 days and when you call again, it'll be another 2 weeks onto that date.

Hi there, Dr. Mia delivered my baby for me at Garden City. He is the best Gynae i have ever been to. He takes his time with you, chats and alleys any issues you may have and basically gives you quality time for your maoney. he is very professional and very friendly. He is really awesome.

THX Jeanine - let me see what I can get done. Yip, she said he's not taking any new patients before October, so she said if I want a scan I must find a sonographer for that and then come and see Dr. Mia on 6 October.

WHAT!!!! 6 October - wow - the longest I've ever had to wait was 7 weeks

Best advise I can give is to phone again, and say you HAVE to see him by a certain date. I got an earlier appointment that way my 20 week scan.

Was this at Genesis? I know he is only there 2 days of the week, maybe find out if he is still seeing patients elsewhere.

OK so I called Dr. Mia's office and they can only see me - wait for it..........................................on 6 October!!! WTF??!! I'll be around 19 weeks by then. What do I do now?
