Anyone with Dr Mia at Genesis?

Yes, Xoli is a good midwife.....also found out about her on the Pampers forum when I fell pregnant, she came highly recommended by some of the ladies on the forum.

THX Punkies. I've heard about Xoli - is she nice? I don't want a midwife that will try to rush me during birth.

So I guess I will have to make me appointment now if I want to see him at around 12 weeks. If the home birth option does not work out, I will also go to Genesis, but Linkwood is 2 streets up from my house!

I'm also using Dr. Mia as my back up gynae, my midwife is Xoli and am giving birth at Genesis Clinic. I've only seen Dr. Mia three times so far and will see him for the last time again at 36 weeks, am currently 32 weeks.

He's a lovely Dr. I guess that's why he's such a busy man. I only had one experience with him when he was running extremely late with his appointments and we had to wait for a really long time to see him, it was also the first time we had gone to see him on a Saturday. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend him.

I've also decided on a waterbirth, hoping all goes according to plan !

THX all. OK well Lesley (midwife) delivered Kayla at Garden City Active Birth Unit in the birth bath - was awesome. 2nd birth - we went to Linkwood and Megan was delivered by Marinda (Lesley was on leave)

Yesterday I called Lesley again (prefer her) but she's not really practicing anymore but she's agreed to help me with a home birth (must just check that she's still registered etc. for medical aid to pay).

With Kayla I had a scan at 11 weeks, 20 weeks and my 3D scan at hospital. Never saw a gynae other than that. With Megan, I was with Dr. Nagar (as midwives had legal problems with Garden City) until about 32 weeks when he told me I won't be able to have a natural birth, so I went back to the midwives.

Cath - when I had Megan, I put my make up on during contractions which was like 2 minutes apart. I also had this pic in my head of me all beautiful in the bath, had scented scanted etc., but flip, then I threw the candles out as they were making me nauseous, the bath didn't do it for me, my hair was tied (i wanted it loose) and Megan arrived on the bed instead of in the bath!

I think it depends on your midwive.

The ones I'm using saw me from 24 weeks onwards, with a last checkup at gynae at about 35/36 weeks, to "clear" me for natural, low-risk birth.

And even then I only saw gynae twice - the two big scans at 14 weeks, and 20 weeks.

YAY ladies I am also going to be birthing at Genesis and Dr Mia is my first choice. I have another great gynae I am seeing first though he is a FS Dr Nicholas Clarke I didn't intend to go the FS route as I've only had one MMC in Jan but I had heard such great reports. He is wonderful but I love the look of Genesis.
Joli, when are you due and I understood we 'needed' to see some form of gynae til 30+ weeks then when they say it's a low risk pregnancy it's ok to go to Genesis. I have a mental picture of me in birthing bath (looking beautiful LOL! ) with my husband by my side and our beautiful baba! The picture doesn't quite work when set in a hospital!
