Thanks. Thats why i was thinking maybe i should just tell them to go wild, but they are demanding the list.

This other lady gave them the list but they ignored it completely and still bought clothes & blankies

If they've asked you for a list then give it to them
But make sure to include some cheap & some expensive things, and maybe some are willing to club together to buy some of the more pricey things - drop a hint in that line if you really do want the expensive stuff.
Just remember, people always love to buy clothes, and despite lists they'll generally buy stuff that they like / had.

Our family works of lists for all occasions, as that way we get some of what we want and not bath soaps if you're not into bubble baths etc.
My friends at work know this, and they asked me for a list.

Ntoko put all your needs on the list and have some inexpensive options too. People can club together to buy the more expensive items.

I just need to find out if it is right to write a list of things you need for a shower or would you just say people should go wild?

See @work they want a list of things i need. I have things in mind but they are a bit pricey. eg: Baby carrier @R300

What I did was go do a registry at 3 different places. This is to make sure that all price ranges were catered for, so that your friends, from student to CEO can get something. I did one at Baby City (for the appliances), Edgars (for blankets, feeding pillows, nursery essentials) and at a baby boutique, for those friends that have expensive tastes and some money to spend. What you do then is collect all the reference numbers to be included on your baby shower invitation.

Best thing is to go and do a gift registry - and then give it to your friend to deal with and email out.

Generally you tend to say something along the lines of

"There is no need to get us anything, we are so blessed already, but if you would like to get us something small, we have a gift registry at XYZ under 122345. You know you can pick something up that you know we will love."

Or something to that nature.
