Good on you for wanting to continue :-)
I breastfed my son while I was preggies - my gynae had no issues with me doing it - (though I guess it is also because my son was a bit older). I breastfed him until he was 21 months old - at which stage I started being uncomfy with him lying on me with my big tummy... and my milk started decreasing quite a bit (bear in mind I was only b/f about 3 times a day at this stage).

How far along are you?? I found my supply only started getting affected in the second trimester.

I'd say play it by ear - drink lots of fluids, take your vitamins and take good care of yourself etc and I'm sure you will be fine. If you have a breastpump you could also pump a bit to increase supply if you are worried about it.

Many mums have made it through their entire pregnancy and gone on to tandem feed so yes, it is entirely possible.

Good luck with whatever decision you make! I'm still quite shocked your doc told you to stop immediately - that sounds ridiculous to me!

PS Regarding the sleep issue - my son only started sleeping through at 20 months (the month before I stopped breastfeeding) - rather ironic - he also use to drink for comfort from me sometimes at night).

Just one question, why do you want to stop any suckling at night time including a dummy? The dummy may just comfort her enough when she is refused the boob because night feeds at this age are purely comfort keepers.

Drs will always advise dropping the breastfeeding, but then doctors seem to advise formular supplementation at the drop of a hat!, but my moms best friend successfully breastfed her daughter till 2 years while also breastfeeding her son (who is 18 months younger)
As long as you are healthy and gaining weight appropriately there is NO reason to stop. Your daughter is already 11 months so should be getting a large portion of hr diet from solid foods already. Her night time feed is probably just a comfort thing, so try sleep trainingto get her to drop it, but the longer you can continue breastfeeding the longer she will have immunological support from your milk.

Get onto a good multivitamen, increase your caloric intake appropiately (if necessary consult with a dietician) and contact Leleche league for support. If you start struggling to maintain/gain weight and you are feeling unwell then you can make the decision to stop, but as long as your preganancy is a healthy one I say go ahead!

Anyone have any advise for breastfeeding while pregnant?

My LO is 11 months old and I so want to continue BF for as long as possible. I have read that it is possible, I just have to take extra special care of myself and ensure that I am eating a well balanced meal and taking supplements such as vitamins and calcium, as well as getting enough calories in (if neccessary a shake will help). For how long I'll be able to Breastfeed, I do not know.

My LO is now only 6kgs, just very petite. I had a very happy pregnancy first time round, and a very easy natural birth (birth weight was 2,3kg and born at 39 weeks). Now eating very well, although small meals but through-out the day from morning to night. So I also feel I can supplement meals with a good well balanced diet especially as almost a year old and is eating almost everything now. I am a SAHM which really helps! We do total on-demand feeding and luckily I am not afraid to breastfeed just about anywhere, so it really doesn't limit us.

I have seen the Sr at the Baby Clinic, who says I must follow my heart, but I know my Gynae, a new gynae for me, is not going to be thrilled.

I am scared the LO will not be getting enough to eat/drink. Should I supplement with formulae?

We are currently battling with sleeping, as LO wakes up very often and I end up BF as it is easiest, but we all need our sleep now and with such a small age gap, I need to have LO settled soon. I have to start sleep training tonight and try discourage any sucking (incl dummy) at night, last feed at 10pm and then water from a cup. LO is perfectly healthy and there is no reason not to sleep through.

I am scared the Dr's are going to discourage me on breastfeeding. My GP told me to stop IMMEDIATLY and wanted to give me formulae to tide me over until I could get to the pharmacy to buy!

Any advise (as well as encouragement) will be much appreciated!
