file Giving up on my makeup?

Memo- that's interesting, I was a wardrobe mistress before i fell pregnant, sadly no more :-( You'll understand i had to give up my career completely because even being pregnant i could go off on tour anymore.

I miss it but i knew i would never be able to say 'nothing will change when i have a baby' because ultimately for me EVERYTHING changed. I decided i will maybe look at getting back int the industry when my kids are a bit bigger but to be honest even when they are at school, as you said, you can't just take a half day to pick up sick kids.

Desiree- i like the ladies idea of just doing a few odd jobs, maybe a few of the bigger but better paid gigs and decline the small ones. If you still feel it's too much then just put it on hold for a few years. Your knowledge of your field will still be there in 10 years time but your baby is growing and changing everyday.

I started a little baby accessories business when my son was born because after giving up my career completely money is very tight but i do regret not taking more one on one time with him when he was still so small, he's turning 2 now and i really do enjoy the days when i make time just for us. for so many months he was actually a burden with my work load too but actually now i look back i see it was the wrong way around and it should've been my work that suffered not my time with my boy.

The problem Kimika with the 'industry' is that unlike a regular 9-5, shoot days are longer and no one can really stand in for you, if say you need to pick your child up for whatever reason...
It is quite a difficult situation.
I am a costumer and am currently scouting for something else, that would be more baby friendly...
I agree with what Julz said, plus another idea is to hook up with an apprentace that is fresh out of college or just keen to learn the trade, she would be free and in exchange for having her shadow you you would have an extra pare of hands and could possibly take lo with?

No woman should ever have to give up her make-up!!! ;)

But I understand your position and its such a hard thing, everything you say is totally making sense..

But just stopping it completely and getting rid of your stock ? I agree with the other ladies, is there no way you can still do it on a occasional basis?? Or even find a permant job as a make-up artist maybe with a agency or with one of the magazines?? There must be permanent full-time jobs available for people with your passion!!

And from your post I really get your passion for this.. I dont think you will be happy with giving it up.

Good luck with your decision. xxx

This is the one part of being a mom that can be frustrating as before you have kids you tend to say that you will not change your life for them, however you actually need to especially when they are really young. I think this catches many moms.

Maybe do the odd booking say twice a month? Just to keep yourself in the game so that when things get better time wise and they will you will still have clients etc.

It is obviously important to you and I feel that it is still important to try to keep just one tiny part of yourself going. For me it is my yoga once a week (when I can) or biodanza (when I can). Neil looks ater Dylan and I feel like my life is sort of like the old days.

I don't regret having Dylan at all, that doesn't mean I have to competely be mom and only mom. I think that is tough for women. We have to be mom, partner, employee etc so there is hardly time for yourself, but there can be if you make time. Set aside a time and do bookings. Maybe sat afternoons when it suits hubby etc.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

tough one Des,

i think at the end of the day, it's all about change.

imagine if it were the other way round for eg. if you had Connor first and then started doing makeup, then you'd miss spending time with your baba...

i know its not a biggie, but i used to do beading, and when Ché my first baby was born i had to sell my stuff. that was my life...

i think thats why woman are such great creatures, its tough but we eventually adapt.

don't be sad, maybe you should still try and set aside 1 or 2 days of the month for "Des's Day" and you then go do what you want, make-up... i know its easier said than done :)

the reason why you did not get many responses id because its a tough question to give advice on

Not getting much of a response on the "Ladies" forum section, so thought I'd post here too...

Hi ladies... this is something so close to my heart, and its a decision I've been mulling over since the birth of Connor, who is now 5 months old.

In my "previous" life, I kept a full time day job as a PA...and on weekends and evenings I was a professional makekup artist - I've worked with sooooo many fabulous models, celebrities, brides - I've had work published in magazines, etc ...and I loved my makeup, it was very much "me". I swore that having Connor would not change things....but...it has. I'm back at work now, and my evenings and weekends belong to Connor, and since his birth I have not had time to even think about doing any makeup - I've turned down bookings...ignoring some requests, which is something I would never have previously done. I think I've been avoiding making a decision on this....or have been avoiding facing the facts....that I no longer have the luxury of time, and that my makeup would be a very distant memory.....for now. It saddens me, but....if I think about it honestly, I know that I will not be resigning from my day job as I need the security of a very comfortable salary - especially now with Connor, who is my priority. I can't spend my evenings at studios doing makeup when I have a baby to take care of, and my weekends are devoted to spending time with him as he is in daycare during the week whilst I am at work. I also need to fit in time to spend with hubby and take care of our relationship as well.

Basically, I have decided to stop doing makeup for now....and to get rid of some of my makeup kit, especially things that are likely to go "off" - like foundations, etc

What do you ladies think?

My beautiful baby boy, Connor Troy, was born on 20 March 2010 and my 2nd gorgeous boy, Cullen Reece, was born on 2 September 2011 - I am very blessed indeed
