As early as nine weeks

Panorama by Natera screens for Down syndrome and other genetic conditions with much higher accuracy than previous screening tests. The Panorama Prenatal Screen analyses fragments of cell-free fetal DNA circulating in the mothers’ bloodstream. The Panorama test can be performed as early as nine weeks into a pregnancy and screens for many commonly seen genetic conditions like Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome.

Lowest reported false positive

Panorama has reported a >99.9% sensitivity, or detection rate for Down syndrome. Additionally, it has the lowest reported false positive rate of any prenatal screening test for commonly screened chromosomal abnormalities. Panorama has also reported >99.9% accuracy for fetal sex. Panorama reports low risk and high risk results for each condition it screens.

Help eliminate need for invasive procedures

While is not a diagnostic test, it can help eliminate the need for unnecessary invasive procedures, like an amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling that can be suggested after a false positive screening result from other, less accurate prenatal screening methods. All high risk Panorama results should be confirmed by an invasive procedure to ensure the results are correct.

Where to get this test?

Panorama must be ordered through your healthcare provider, who can obtain a test kit through Lancet Laboratories or PathCare South Africa. Once a Panorama test kit is obtained, an expecting mother can simply visit a local laboratory to have her blood drawn, where it will be packaged and send to Natera’s laboratory in California with the test requisition form. Once the sample is received, Natera will analyze the sample and report results to your healthcare provider within 7-10 calendar days.

To help you and your doctor understand Panorama and its results, Natera, the makers of Panorama, provide complimentary 15-minute pre- and post-test genetic information sessions for all potential Panorama patients. They can be scheduled by visiting http://www.panoramatest.com/genetic-info-session. Watch their informative video here.
