Preparing for your maternity photo shoot – what to expect Featured

A maternity shoot is sexy, sensual, beautiful and a time when you as a pregnant woman can feel empowered.

Alta van Wyk, from Picture You Photography , says she loves photographing a pregnant woman. “It’s a time when a woman can actually show off having a big tummy. It’s best to do the shoot when your tummy is quite big but not too close to your due date. I’ve had clients miss their maternity shoots because the baby decided to come.”

There’s a few things you have to consider before you go for your shoot. Do you want your husband and other children to be there, do you want your pets there, what do you want to wear, how do you feel about nudity?

We have a few tips for you:

• Book your pregnancy maternity shoot in advance – photographers are normally super busy and you may have to wait for a spot.
• Try and book your shoot when you are between 35 and 37 weeks pregnant.
• Prepare your partner for the shoot if they want to go with. Especially if you want to kiss and cuddle in front of the camera. Maybe you want dad to talk to your tummy or kiss your belly button. Men especially are not always comfortable to it helps when they are warned before!
• Wear something comfortable that you feel gorgeous in. You can change clothing, so take lots of outfits with. Decide on something plain that works with your background. Remember the focus should be on your tummy, so try and enhance that.
• Take the stuff you feel sentimental about with. Ultra sound photos, booties, something with baby’s name on it or anything that you feel have significance for you.

Lastly, enjoy it! You are beautiful and that’s enough reason to celebrate your growing tummy.
