Taking into account that every pregnancy is as different as every woman is from the next, entering week 9 your baby is going to start to transition from the embryonic stage to the foetal period, about an inch long and about as big as an olive or large bean, can you imagine it! Your baby’s nerves, muscles and organs are all going to start functioning now, with the beating of its tiny heart strong enough to be picked up by an ultrasound like a Doppler, though this will also depend on the position of your baby in your uterus.
Baby’s ears will start developing and although their eyelids are in place, they are going to remain fused shut until around week 26, but their little fingers and toes will start changing from tiny buds into actual digits.
For you, waistbands may start getting a bit tighter, even without a proper ‘bump’, which is going to make stretchy clothing a lot more attractive and comfortable to you around you tummy, especially if you are still riding the waves of nausea along the way, while your bras might start getting a bit tight, making it a good idea just to get a few well fitting, comfy bras to wear during this transitional period.
Plan your questions for your obstetrician or midwife which will more than likely be coming up in the next few days or weeks, make it easy on yourself to remember all the questions you may want to ask so that you don’t have to rely on a memory that might already be experiencing a few black holes!
As your pregnancy progresses please accept that it is perfectly understandable that with pregnancy hormones raging it may feel as if you are on a roller coaster ride of emotions, one moment bursting with excitement and the next sobbing at a commercial or a soapy! You have a new life growing in you; expect to be feeling very different for quite a while to come!
You may be getting excited about the first scan that will allow you to see your baby, but, that will normally wait until you are around 11 or 12 weeks preggies, you will have plenty to keep you occupied in the meantime with the changes beginning to take place in you on many levels at a rapid pace now.
Last but not least, if you are desperate to share your exciting news, share it with close friends and family first, whatever you do, don’t let them find out via social media, bad move if you want plenty of baby presents! There are women who prefer to wait to share their news if there is any concern over a miscarriage and those near and dear will understand if they get the news a bit later!
Whatever you do, through every stage of your pregnancy, enjoy the best of it, grit your teeth through the worst of it, make sure you get enough rest and know that at the end of it all, what you hold in your hands will be a baby who will teach you exactly what the true meaning of unconditional love really is!
