We asked Laurene a few questions about what it means to be a mom and how she chooses toys for her baby Ava to play with.

When was baby Ava born? 

Ava was due on the 8th of May, but decided it was more comfy in mom's tummy... So she came 10 days late on the 18th of May, 2016.

How was your pregnancy with her? 

I had a super easy pregnancy, with a bit of morning sickness and some sore feet now and again, but nothing to complain about. 

What was the most special part of your pregnancy and birth with her? 

I loved it when she kicked or moved in my tummy, it's an amazing feeling. After her birth, I couldn't stop smelling her. She smelt like heaven. 

Tell me about her birth day? What do you remember? 

Everything! It was the most amazing day. I tried very hard to give natural birth, but after 24 hours and a few complications, I had an emergency c-section. Ava was born at 8:25 am, weighed 3,58 kg and was perfect. I remember being utterly in love immediately!  

How did you choose her name? 

We went through a long list of names and Ava was one that stuck with both of us, so that when she was finally was born we took one look at her and both agreed she was our little Ava. 

What would you say is your wish for her life? 

To meet a man as good and loving as her dad.  To enjoy life, with all its ups and downs as life is so short and you need to make the most of it. I wish for her to be a happy child and to try and be a child as long as possible. 

What can you already see developing in her personality? 

She's not afraid to "speak up" when she's not happy with something! Haha! Seriously though... She loves to laugh and loves to talk with you face to face. 

What has her arrival meant for you and your husband? 

With her arrival we are now a family. 

How has your life changed? 

Completely.

How long did you wait for her - or did you fall pregnant straight away? 

We fell pregnant straight away. 

How can you describe yourself then and now. Laurene before Ava and Laurene after Ava? 

I am a very busy, active person. Always doing something and I'm always in a hurry. With Ava I now have to go much slower, and some days go past where I don't do anything. It frustrates me, but it's something I'm working at. 

Do you believe in spoiling children and if you do, what will you spoil her with?

Yes, I do believe it's okay to spoil your child, to reward them for good behavior or if they accomplished something. Sometimes if they're sick and had to get an injection a little something nice to spoil them isn't so bad. But it doesn't mean they'll get a toy every time. I think the toy / sweetie that'll be their reward will depend on the above mentioned. 

What do you look for in a brand/toy to stimulate your baby? 

A toy that's not going to break, something strong and sturdy. Preferably plastic that can be recycled or wooden toys are great. A toy that will entertain my child and be educational at the same time.  

What about this Newborn to Toddler Playgym was really cool and did she enjoy? 

She loved the playgym. She started to realize as she nocks the blue raccoon it'll make a sound. It's helping her figure out her arms and what they can do. It can entertain her for quite a while! 

Did you also grow up with Fisher Price? What about it can you remember? 

My sister and I had the Fisher Price binoculars with the slides of Snow White and Cinderella ect. We had lots of fun with it. Ava now has a wind-up TV radio that I play her while changing her nappies. 

What did your mom teach you that you will carry over to your daughter?

Respect people and you will be respected. Learn the art of saying no.
