exclamation-circle How to get my 6mth old to sleep thru the night?

Shame, like the other ladies, I can really sympathise with. I had a really horrible sleeper from birth, there were times when she didn't sleep at all during the day, at night she would also wake every 45 min (their normal sleep cycle) and most times it would be an hour or so's excercise to get her to sleep again. I really thought I would never ever sleep through the night again.

But all of a sudden when she was 9 months (beginning of January) she started sleeping through the night (11-12 hours) all by herself and she also sleeps like a champ during the day now as well (2 sleeps of 1.5-2.5 hours) - all of this happened magically because of prayer I think.

I still can't believe my luck, I still don't sleep through every night, I still go and check if she is still breathing, so almost 2 months later and I still can't believe it.

I know none of this you want to hear now, I was also there, one is SO sleep deprived and you have tried every trick and remedy and calming method in books and what everyone tells you. I'm sorry, there really isn't anything that I did or any natural remedy such as camomile tea (for example) that did the trick, she just started doing it by herself.

Good luck and hang in there, like the other ladies say, it really does get better at some point.

Hi Alexia

I'm also not a fan of any form of sleep training - like Stella but each mother must do what they think is right. I can write an essay on this subject hahaha

All I can say is, it really does get better. Most kids are only really ready between the age of 2-5yrs old to sleep through the night. Before age 2, your baby goes through A LOT of changes, being teething, growth spurts, wonder weeks (10 of them) and major developmental milestones. All of these can disrupt their sleep.

Babies wake up when they thirsty, hungry, too hot, too cold, illness etc. Some times there is a medical problem that needs to be sorted out - like low iron levels or magnesium deficiency but mostly, it's normal for them to wake up. Many parents think if there baby doesn't sleep through at a very young age, that they doing something wrong. I can assure you it's normal.

I know lack of sleep can cause havoc as we all need a good night sleep but you just need to figure out why baby is waking. Do you co-sleep? If not, maybe try it. If you do, maybe see if baby sleeps better next to you in a cot etc.

This will all soon be a distant memory

Strong mama

Hi AlexiaL,

I sympathise with you. The lack of consistent sleep is draining!
My LG fed every 2 hours since she was born. Once we started solids, the day feeds stretched out, but she still woke every 2 hours for a night feed until about 12 months.

Hang in there, it does improve.

Hi AlexiaL

I feel for you I've been there felt like a zombie!

We contacted Good night baby goodnightbaby.co.za/ (recommended by our Ped)
and they helped us allot. It is hard work and dedication but soon you reap the benefits. By the second night
our little one (previously woke every 45min) only woke 2 the night....

touch wood now more than 6 months along we are all sleeping through the night. Given he still wakes up early 5:30 - 06:00 but
I think that's normal for babies/Children.

good luck

My 6mth old awakes 6am daily, has 2x30 minute sleeps for the morning & 1x30 minute sleep in the afternoon....well most days. Some days she sips on her bottle, i.e. one bottle can last for hours, other days she scoffs them down back to back.

Bath time is at 6pm, then asleep by 8pm.
From 8pm she awakes every 2hours for a feed.

How to get my 6mth old to sleep thru the night?
