question-circle children on meds? what do you think?

hi.
well the reason i think so is because i know alot of friends with children the same age and i see none of them behave nearly as bad as he does. I know children differ but even my friends tell me that they don't want to be rude but they think i should go see some one.

all though i know i am not a very stick mommy and i have a soft hear i do discipline him so its not that he does not learn how to behave

He has temper tantrums all day long, he cries, screams way more than other kids
he just doesn't want to obey any rules
No one can look his way or talk to him other wise he screams or yells he is often being touchy or easily annoyed by others
HE is just ANGRY all the time. he speaks mean and hate full towards me although I give him so much love and he obviously loves me very much and he is an absolute mammas boy

when i sit and play with him he cant concentrate for one minute even then he moves on to the next thing.
he is extremely hyper active and its such a struggle to get him to sleep. some nights his still up at 11

oh and i can carry on for hours

Hi Melanie. What makes you think it is ODD and not normal toddler behavior? Just interested...

I believe there are many things to explore before medication - therapy, a look at diet etc.

I personally do not have any experience in this area.

However my thoughts are that I would have my child assessed by a paed, then ask him/her to refer me to a paed or a specialist in what area your child is experiencing problems.

Go to the specialist appointment and discuss what the options are.

I think most doctors understand that there are several ways to skin a cat, and there may be behaviour modification/diet issues, or homeopathic options to consider before looking at medication.

Each situation and child is different.

I personally would explore the issue with a specialist or a specialist paed and not necessarily that the word of a general paed.

I often feel that we as parents do trust our doctors to make the right recommendations to us - but medicine is really an opinion at the end of the day, and different people will differ on how to resolve an issue, and you may need to see several people before you find a solution that works for you and your son.

Good luck - let us know how it goes.

Hi all
My son is two years and 4 months.

I struggle with him allot.

All the signs points to ODD

I am seeing the paediatrician this afternoon and scared he might put him on medication, well i don't know, but if he does i don't know if i want to but i cant deal with behaviour any longer.

What do you moms think?
