Anyone BF toddler?

Jusdawn - congrats for bfeeding for so long! I also want to make it up to 2years. I know it will be hard though, going for 16months now.........Hope you get it right.

i know the feeling - was great while it lasted, but enough is enough now. anyway i got the following advice from a book and it worked for me - hopefully it will for you as well:
i breastfed my LO until about 18 mnts and weaned him off very slowly. at this point he was only drinking at night.
first i told him we are going to get to the point where he was no longer going to get mommy's milk, but he could still lie in in mommy's arms and mommy will still hold him very close (at this age it is very much a comfort thing)
so over a period of about two weeks i shortened the time that he actually spent on the breast, until he was literally on for a minute and then i would tell him it is all finished now. the minute became 30 seconds and then finally one night i said there is now no more mommy's milk. he cried of course, but when he woke up later in the night he did not even ask for it and never asked for it again.
he is still completely fascinated with my breasts though and often asks if he can sleep on my breast

I think it's awesome that you are still bf and you are such an inspiration to me. I would also like to ween my baby gradually. He is nowhere near your son's age, but I will be so very proud when I reach the two year mark. I have read extensively on bf in general and it is recommended to consider bf in terms of years, between 3-6 years is considered good because a childs immune system only kicks into gear around 6yrs.
Lots of people bf even though they are pregnant and then ofcourse tandem bf when the new baby comes, and often the change in the milk(back to colostrum) tends to ween the older child. However, this would not appeal to me either.
My advise is check out the www.llli.org/SouthAfrica.html forum and even phone a consultant from the site. There is one in every area. Also they are the experts in bf and you would be pleasantly surprised at just HOW helpfull these ladies are.

My son will be two at the end of the month and I want to wean him, however he DOESNT.
He currently only nurses before naps and bed at night. I have tried to tell him that my boobies are owie and put lemon juice on them so he would not like the taste but he either A) screams bloody murder, sucks the lemon juice off and then is happy, C) refuses to sleep. This is making me crazy. I am tired of BF and trying to get pregnant again but it seems that he really isnt ready. Any suggestions?
