POTTY TRAINING A 3 YR OLD BOY

What I did was:
Took a whole weekend at home - planned nothing. DH did shopping etc.
Pulled all the carpets and packed them away
Bought Jade fab little panties (like about 20 pairs!) and explained to her that these are new and we are going to be wearing these during the day and when she wants too wee or poo she must tell mommy or pull down her panties and go in the potty.

I also bought one of those seats you put in the toilet so their little bums don't fall through and a step.

So we started the day by taking her nappy off and I put her on the toilet and explained again when she needs to wee or poo she must do it in the toilet. Put her panties. About 20 minutes later she wet them. Reacted very calmly and cleaned up wee and put a fresh pair on (she didn't wear pants the whole weekend). And then every half and hour asked her if she wanted to go and took her to the toilet. The potty also was in the room with us all the time. It was hit and miss but we did this the whole weekend and for her sleeps put a nappy on which we still do now.

And for about 2 months after that weekend if we went out we took the seat with us and just took lots of clothes with us and just took her to the toilet often. And walah potty trained!

But yes there was many a resturant or shop that had a wet puddle in but so what! Most peeps happily grabbed a mop. Just be prepared with extra clothes and wet wipes and a small towel.

Of course once in a blue moon there is a accident now when she is too busy playing etc.

I have not started yet. Maybe too afraid to, but I am sure that you should remain positive even if accidents happen. I think potty training is like eating. You shouldn't make a fuss as they become tense over a very natural thing. Boys do tend to train later so try not to stress.

Just keep on encouraging him. x

im so in the same boat my son 2yrs and ten months,and hes at creche they dont even potty-train him

I'm so with you on this one. My son is 2 and a half and I also tried potty training and gave up due to the same reasons. He will sit there on the toilet/potty and within 5 mins has messed in his pants. I don't know what to do either.

Yes I know I have left it late but there has been some factors that prevented me from training him up until now.

So my son is 3 ys old and a few months. He is definitely 100% ready to be trained and we have been training him for about 2 weeks now.

How long does the whole process take on average? I am aware each child is different and I know girls train quicker than boys but I feel like we are just not progressing. I will sit him on the potty and and he will sometimes sit there for 5-10mins. Now this does not happen all the time but he will get off the potty and 5 minutes later make a wee in his pants. I know I have to stay patient but after 2 accidents in a space of 30 minutes my patience wears thin. I speak to him very sternly and tell him that he must make wees in the potty. What I need to know if is, is it all right for them to know that you are unhappy that they have had an accident or should you be cheery and happy about it and say "nevermind, next time we will do it in the potty"?

I don't want to give him any hang ups about the whole toilet thing. Don't want to scar the poor child for life.

Can anyone advise.
