Biting in toddlers are seen as normal according to Toddler sense book.

They advise to shower the "victim" with attention and sympathy so it discourages the biter to do it again, since the victim gets more attention.

That is just what I have read, I have never been in that situation myself, but it sounds awefull.

Hi

I have a problem. My LG has been on the receiving end of 3 x bite marks in the last 2 weeks.

It is another child in her class at nursery school. It has not been the same child that has biten her - it is different children.

I know that biting is normal - as everyone keeps telling me - but heck 3 times in the past 2 weeks. That is a bit much

I asked the teacher what gets done about it. They tell the parents about it but that is that.

Surely they need to do something to the toddler at the time of the biting otherwise what is the point of reprimanding 5 hours later. (Like dogs - you cant discipline when they have not done something wrong - you must discipline at the time of being naughty). Surely when you reprimand 5 hours later (when child gets home from school and parents say something) - how is the child supposed to know what he/she is being moaned at/about?
Something needs to be done to the toddler at time of biting! Now I am not saying smacking or anything like that but something surely needs to be done at the time?
(Smacking is not the school policy anyways)

What would you recommend? The teacher asked me what she should do about it!!! Well I don't know is that not your job?

So on my way to work this morning I was thinking about it - would it be ok to put pepper in the biter's mouth as it happens? Do you think that would be ok to do?
or what else?

I would want the teacher to tell me if my LG bit anyone. But in essence what can i do about it unless i see my toddler bite and then at the time reprimand her. Not long after the fact! How do i speak to her about it when she comes home..... she has already forgotten about it.

The teacher says that my LG has become a bully - so yeah dam right, she needs to bully the kids that keep biting her.
But in all honesty I will reprimand her and get her right if she bullys us at home but surely the teachers must have some sort of method to do this too?

What are your thoughts?
(I personally would not mind if the teacher puts pepper (just tiny amount) in my LG's mouth if she has biten someone. Then she will be hurting too and maybe think twice about doing it again.

Your input please, moms!!
I just don't know what to do anymore. I am very angry and frustrated about it all!!
