Oooh, I know its difficult but don't bribe.... You're only causing major problems for yourself.

I talk to JOshua and if he doesn't listen I walk away. Now my child loves attention and can't stand it if he doesn't get attention.

I know that a screaming child can drive you mad but don't give in. Be string. If you give in to them once they will manipulate every situation as well as exploit you.

Patience, patience, patience. ... On one of the other threads one of the moomies mentioned that if you get upset when you're child is upset then that's exactly how they will react every time they are unsure of any situation. You need to stay calm & show her that you are in control. After all you are the mommy and she is the child ;)

hi ladies

i am in the same boat , mine is 3 years and complains and moan about almost everything , she is very destructive and she want bribe before doing anything . if you gives her water in a green cup she will complain that she want in a pink cup , you dish for her in a blue plate she cries and moan that she needs a green one .

i am tired of her that sometimes i feels like punching her . she doesnt want to wear this dress only that jean , not that shoes but those shoes.

i know i am wrong but i have come to a point that i bribe or promise her something so that she can do what i want her to do .

I doubt that you're the issue ;) Just that their attention span is very very limited. I think it gets better thou or so I hope

Maybe take the night off, no cooking etc. Just bond with LB.

DH & I take turns cooking and taking care of J. Alternate daily. Sometimes he just wants his Mammmma or then just Dada.

What about letting him feed you during supper? I know its sounds :silly: but maybe you can spark some interest and then bond ;)

Just keep trying the books too. Joshua did the exact same thing and DH & I did and still think that he's destructive :silly: but its his way of learning. I've learnt to be patient and to try and try until he is interested in something. Initially he also crawled away not watching the movies but then he started liking Jungle Book as we sing all the songs whether he's interested or not.

Have you tried dancing with him? I do this all the time since birth to any music and he loves it. When he's niggly I put on some music and he actually tries to dance by himself now. I found the music calmed him or maybe it was his way to express his emotions.

Also try giving him crayons and help him scribble on paper. I'm going to buy some blackboard paint for J's room.

Does he have a favourite teddy maybe? I name each and every teddy that Joshua has. His favourite is Oscar, a little dog which we bought before he was born. I talk to Oscar in the same manner as though I'm taking to J. Now, even if we buy new toys he likes them but Oscar, oh nothing is as dear to him as Oscar.
He cuddles and plays and even talks to Oscar  , in babytalk, sometimes in a very stren/serious manner.

Lol - thanks so much - he is just very difficult and sometimes I feel he is very "behind" - he was born severely prem and was in ICU for almost 2 months, but he does not even look at a book if I show him one.... pulls the pages out, throws it on the ground and looks for something else to destroy... maybe I am seriously underestimating my child - I do not do any of the "games" like getting him to undress himself or things like that? maybe I am the problem here? I have put movies on, but he is not interrested at all - crawls away. I can not even hold him or cuddle him - not ever - he pulls away and will start screaming if I just try to give him a hug... I am starting to think I am the problem> am I baby'ing him too much? please give me some ideas on how to try and do things with him? stimulating? the only thing I know that keeps his attention is switching the dishwasher on and off, and watching as the washing machine washes - he has so many toys - but he is not bothered by any of them... feels like he is just so BUSY... and nothing can keep him happy or occupied. I think I am the issue - maybe at daycare he crawls around the whole day, plays with other kids, and when he gets home he gets frustrated?

Hey Rhodine

I agree - Who needs a gym :silly:

Joshua also used to and still hates getting dressed but I make a game out of it. His 15months but we've been doing this for a long time. I ask him to undress himself :woohoo: Very funny to see. Also he can't waitto take off his own nappy. He flings it in the air as if he's some kind of exotic dancer  Really don't know where he got those moves from 'cos our door stays closed ;)

Does he maybe have a favourite book/movie that you can use as an incentive afterwards. Joshua knows that if he's good we get to watch Jungle Book. Yes, we've watched a million times.

I think the frustration stems from the fact that they are not verbal and can't tell you what they need to tell you. From 6months, I used nursery rhimes to get Joshua to relate to things/objects/people. Also, just made up my own songs as I went along  But I remember to write some down as he wanted to do the clap song and I couldn't remember what I sang. I did alter it a bit and the reaction I got was

Oh Boy Do I have a moaner too... at the mere age of 12months, He moans from when picking him up till he goes to sleep which is like 10h00pm..... I simply do not understand where I am going wrong with him, I do not give into his every tantrum, I sometimes try to avoid him, but that makes the moaning turn into screaming and crying.. and then? what else can I do but pick him up. He has not started walking yet, but crawls - but getting home at 18h00pm at night, having to bath him, feed him, entertain him till he eventually falls asleep - I am feeling so frustrated. I cannot allow him to crawl around in the house without me standing right next to him, as everything goes to the mouth - he ate the cat food yesterday. So I let him crawl arourd for a while and then I have to put him into his walking ring so that I can attend to my supper and packing his bag for the next day. And now, this week something new started... the screaming when trying to dress him after he has had a bath... oh boy - who needs gym?

Anyhow - I was just glad to see that I am not alone - although all your little angels are a bit older than him....
