Hi there

A fever is a temp over 38 and anything lower than 39 is considered a low grade fever so nothing to really worry about. You can treat it with meds or leave the body to do the work.

A baby under 6 months with a fever or a fever that goes over 39 or that persists after you give meds or a fever that continues for 3 or more days may need to be evaluated.

We really tend to fear a fever, however it just indicates that the body is doing it's job.

Hi Monique :)

I know when Bekah teeths she get a fever and a runny nose so I just give panado and monitor it. If it goes higher than 39 then I speak to the DR. It seems like he has all the teething symptoms not sickness symptoms so maybe just monitor him and if it doesnt go away in the next day or 2 speak to the Dr. again.

Hi Monique
If it was me I would keep an eye on him and treat the high temperature. I wouldn't go to the doctor yet but I understand your concern with him just getting over an ear infection. Hopefully the anti biotics cleared the infection and the temp is from teething. When my LB really battles with his teeth I give him Vidol teething power which really helps. It is paracetamol based so don't use Calpol with it.
Maybe see how he is when you collect him from school this afternoon and make a call then.
Shame, hope he feels better soon.

Hi everyone!

I would just like to know what you would do in my situation.

Last week my son was diagnosed with ear infection and post nasal drip. He was put onto antibiotics and got better quite quickly.

We used the last of the antibiotics yesterday.

Last night my son's (19 months) temperature went up to 38 degrees and he wouldn't eat. I gave him Calpol every 6 hours which brought down his temperature. He is definitely teething (he tells me he's teeth is sore, but he doesn't want me to look) and he had a horrible teething nappy this morning.

I just spoke to the school and he's temp is still high.

I'd like to know, will you still give him meds and watch him during the night and see how he's doing tomorrow or will you rather take him to the Dr today? I don't want him to go on another course of antibiotics - and except for the fever he has no other symptoms???

Your opinion will be much appreciated!
