Hi Mamma's
*sigh* Brace yourself for a loong whiney post from me about SNOT!
So, since Ava started crawling (at around 9 months) she has had an almost constantly running, snot nose! Initially I took her to the Dr and he told me that she had a cold and that given that babies have no immunity to colds, it would take sometime to clear up and I should just use saline nasal spray and let it run its course.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and she developed tonsillitis and went onto a course of antibiotics, within a day of starting the antibiotics, her snotty nose cleared up. A week later and one swimming lesson and we were back to the never ending snotty nose. Back to the Dr. This time, he says because of the redness inside her eyes it looks like an allergy and so he puts her on a Cortisone nasal spray and Zertec (sp?) drops. Both of which do absolutley bugger all to help with the persistently running nose.
Another month passes and we get another round of tonsillitis, back on antibiotics, one dose of antibiotics in and once again, the snot nose vanishes. Which leaves me wondering how on earth it can be an allergy if antibiotics are clearing it up?
So we are snot nose free for a whole week, last Monday, we go for a swimming lesson and by Wednesday?? Yup, you guessed it, we're back to the snot nose again! I have been using the allergy treatment but as per previously it is doing absolutley bugger all.
I'm at my wits end. I don't want my child going on antibiotics all the time but I hate seeing the silver bells dangling from her nose permanently as well.
She doesn't go to day care, has limited contact with other children and is on Creche Guard.
Any other tips for clearing up this snot problem???
