Hi Hayley,

I sent my LO of (then) 23 months to a halfday play group. We also decided to start gradually with only once a week and build it up to more often. The first 3 weeks went fine and then when we increased it to twice a week, things went south from there...

It was holiday now for a month, but the playgroup starts tomorow again. I have mentioned that she will be going soon again and she responded in a very negative way.

All the other 2 year olds there seem fine, although I get the idea most of them go everyday therefore they know what to expect.

I guess I am saying that it seems like all children are ready at different ages.

I think there is a posibillity that I might have to accept that she isn't ready yet...
But we will give it another try for her to hopefully settle in.

Good luck!

Hayley big step, but I think a good one.

Dylan has been at daycare since he was 4 months old. Shame I know. We changed him to a bigger school at age 2 and it wasn't an easy change for him, but after a couple of weeks he settled down.

The main thing is to stick to routine so if you send lo to school make sure you drop and fetch at the same time as much as possible. It doesn't make much difference if it is full day or half day. full day means they will eat lunch and have an afternoon nap. We fetch Dylan at about 4 30 and I drop him at 8.

The main changes in Dylan are things that he says like Yuck to some types of food, but we are lucky to have him in a class that have really nice kids. It makes a difference but sadly you can't control who your child goes to school with. The main thing is that he is in a school in our area so the kids are pretty much from the same type of home as Dylan.

The other concern is health so expect your lo to get a few colds. Try not to stess about them. All kids get about 10 colds per year. Some kids really don't handle school germs and others will get a snot nose and get over it quickly. The main thing is if your child is sick with a fever to keep your kid at home and hope that others do the same so that the nasty bugs are not spread.

Allow her a good 2 weeks of crying each morning. I can assure you they only cry when you are around. Mondays are tough for a few weeks too.

good luck.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

So , i have finally decided it is time to get my toddler (22mnths) to a Nursery school.
i find she is becoming very frustrated as i obviously dont stimulate her as much as she would like. She has so much energy, and as much as i try to keep up with her , i just cant.

The plan was for me to fully potty train her first, then send her for half dayclasses , but like all mum's know... u cannot plan with Toddlers.
So, i would like to know from other mum's how the Nursery school enviroment has impacted on your lo
What changes have you noticed with their behaviour etc .
I plan on sending her half day then gradually build her up for the entire day.... or should i send her full days in order to get her used to routine etc.
pls advice moms.
