file English nanny for Afrikaans child

I think it can actually be very beneficial for your daughter. This way, she will be growing up bilingually, which is awesome. We have a similar situation at home: I speak German to Lilly, hubby English and her nanny Afrikaans. She clearly understands all three languages. These little ones are very smart.

Initially, I was concerned about language confusion, too, and I read up quite a lot about it. It's best for the kids to associate each language with a person at home. She will figure out quickly that you and your DH speak Afrikaans with her and her nanny English. In a multilingual country like SA, this can only be beneficial.

Good luck with the interviewing!

Do you think it's fine to have an English nanny for an Afrikaans child (she's 1). I'm having a nanny over today for a trial and she's really lovely with Emma - she "speaks" to her on her own level and I was so surprised that Emma liked her and smiled at her, etc - all really good signs. And she has excellent references.

I'm just worried about speech development ect - is this something I should be worried about? TV is mostly English any way... I just don't want Emma to get confused between the two languages. I'm planning on keeping her home until she's almost three, then I'll send her to play school.
