Hi Emmas

This subject was also discussed a few months back at www.moomie.co.za/index.php?option=com_ku...888&Itemid=82#183762

I'm glad you've actually raised it again as I think there are quite a few more Moomies since then and I am always interested in hearing what people have to say.

I have my 19 month old down at both a traditional and Montessori school at the moment as I am still undecided. He'll start next year though at 2 yrs old.

I don't necessarily think it is a matter of being better rather than following different approaches. At the end of the day it is dependent on the needs of the child. I know some one for example who have 1 child at a montessori and the other at a "traditional" school.

One comment I have is the perception that Montessori don't believe in fantasty and free play. That may well be true for some schools but definitely not for the one I am considering and not according to the literature I have read. They believe that imagination is an absolute necessity for the development of problem solving skills - I really liked that one.

Cute profile pic of your baby :)

Hi,

Just wanted to get some feedback from moms as to whether the montessori schooling would be better than traditional? Currently looking for a new creche for my 18 mo old and wondering whether to try get her into a montessori school? Is she too young for this? Should I rather just put her into a small, more traditional environment where she would not get the structure but would get more attention etc? Not sure which is the better option for her at this stage. I just want her to be stimulated but to feel happy and loved in her environment.
