I sent an e-mail to the principal and she said I can send the taglet with to school. I have told the teachers that they should give her dummy for naptime as well. I'm really not bothered about the dummy, but thumb sucking is a problem.

Julz I have told the creche about the dropping of the milk and bottles so they know about that. The teacher suggested that we put bitter stuff on her thumb to stop her from sucking her thumb!! Shocking!

Spirited Mama, I kind of understand why they don't allow comfort items..especially dummies..it's unhygienic but they HAVE to make an exception to the rule.

Marilu I would chat to the school. Explain what is going on at home and she has been sick etc and need a comfort item.

Thumb sucking can go on far longer than sucking on a dummy and can damage the mouth structure in a bigger way purely because kids tend to thumb suck for a longer period of time.

It is very important that the school knows what is going on at home so that they can be more understanding of the child's behaviour.

MB, why do they not allow comfort items?
That's BS!

You as the parent are allowed to say what goes or stays. Not them!

Yes, by the sound of it she has been through alot and she needs to self soothe in which ever way she chooses but I admit that I'm not a fan of thumbsucking.

Hi there

Migs started sucking her thumb at the creche. They don't want to give her a dummy so she first started sucking her thumb while sleeping but now she does it during the day at the creche (she has never sucked her thumb at home!!!).

She's been through quite a bit..we recently took her bottle and milk away. They took her dummy away at creche, she's potty training for a few months already now, and I'm VERY stressed so I guess she's picking up on that as well.

Should I ask the creche to give her a dummy during her naptime? She usually sleeps with a taglet AND dummy at home and they don't allow either at the creche so there's no comfort item at the creche?

If she started sucking her thumb at the age of 2 will it continue or is it only a phase? I'm not concerned about the dummy, I believe she will drop that at her own time. Thumbsucking is a different thing though!!!

Please give me advice what to do? She's NEVER sucked her thumb at home?
