Only children, or children who are older than 4 years before the second child arrives actually develop better, socially, emotional and intelectually.

I dont approve of having another child simply to give the first a sibling, we never had Kate so that Em had a sibling, we had her because we wanted another child, but I am very glad we waited the 4 years so Em could develop well and have one on one attention from us.

My Dh is an only child, and he is a darling, loving, caring and willing to help anyone.

Also, I can't stand it when people(family, strangers) ask so when are you having another.....

WTF? Go have your own kids. It's hard being a parent.

I try my best and everyday like clock work at *pm, when Joshua is asleep and wakes at 7am, I thank God that I don't have to deal with a newborn

Always an interesting topic. I have always loved children and I've always said that I would only have one maybe(a bug maybe) two. But when I found out that I was pregnant with Joshua, I decided that he would be my only child.

Yes, raising a child(ren) is expensive and yes if you only have one youdon't have to comprise on what you are able to provided. Many people think that this is selfish and a child should grow uo with siblings, and many people have a few kids and they survive monthly... Well, I don't want toi survive I want to live. Both DH & I earn very decent salaries.

Removing the financial aspect, I can't see how I can share myself with another child. Joshua means everything to me and he gets showered with love, attention and DISCIPLINE :P I don't want another child just because society dictates that I should. Or that it's abnormal for a child to grow up alone.

What's more fekd up is that some people have another child for sake of the first born, to keep each other busy and to free up their own time.... How selfish is that???
My reason for not wanting another child is THAT I DON"T WANT ONE. And my DH now agrees
I made that choice and if when Joshua is a young adult, and he needs therapy then I'll have to deal with it.

I wanted to add a bit of my personal thought. I really thought I wanted more than one child, but to be really honest, I can't see me having enough time and love and patience for another child.

I think we are expected to have more than one child and as soon as you have one the questions start as to when you are having another. I am actually pleased I can't have more as it makes it easier for me to accept and for others to accept, but basically what I want to tell you is do what is best for your family which is your partner and child.

It really isn't up to anyone else.

I always wanted 2. I actually said I would have none rather than 1 and then Dylan was born and I can't have more so I had to try to find peace by looking for the advantages and there are many.

Your child never has to share parents with siblings.

As much as we want our kids to have siblings, there is no guarantee that they will actually like one another.

It is cheaper.

You can still get a tiny gap in the bed if there is only one child. More than one and forget it. Hubby sleeps on the floor.

Less carbon footprint on the planet.

Yes you only get to have one pregnancy but it makes no difference if there is one or three, there will always be the last one and you will always have to make peace with knowing that you will not have more kids.

It is easier at times only having to run after 1 child.

You can get away with a reasonable size car.

They are the oldest and youngest which both have advantages.

You can give them better opportunities.

You don't have to deal with children arguing and fighting although Dylan does it with the dogs, but generally there may be more peace in the home.

There are disadvantages too like your child needs you to keep them company which places greater strain on parents (however only children do well when it comes to keeping themselves busy).

They tend to only have adult company and may grow up quicker so it is important that they socialise with children their own age as much as possible.

Single children are generally well balanced if they are not spoilt too much and if they have friends their own age.
