Thank you all for your help. I will give various of these things a try and see what works best for me. Last night he went to sleep after 9pm once I had threatened him with a woodenspoon and closed the door behind me and left him in the dark. He kept on getting out of his bed to play with his toys. Eish.

We were actually very lucky with Em - basically gave her the rule that I dont care if she sleeps or not, but she will not get out of bed. I gave her books - or her Ipod to listen to music (with headphones cause I dont want to hear ABBA on repeat)

She normally falls asleep in about 30min.

Also we give her a glow stick which she loves - and too see it properly she insists on having the door closed, which is even better :)

maybe have a reward system - if he stays in bed for the entire night give him a reward - with Em I bought a bunch of clothing that she needed anyways left it in a bag and each morning if she had spent the entire night in bed I would let her choose what item of clothing she wanted from the bag :)

Good luck!

Hi fawhaway,

My LG is just over 2,5 years old. I can see that I will typing your exact post in 2 months time...She is already starting with all the delay tactics. Only I can imagine how difficult it must be with another baby!!

Ok, here is what I found in the book Sleepsense by the babysense ladies. I love their approach.

They say that it is normal for all toddlers this age to start pushing boundaries since they have realised that they are able to assert themselves. It is a normal developmental stage though very tiring and frustrating for the parent.

Here is what they suggest to do:

Hi

Oh no! We all need our me time.

My goddaughter had trouble with sleep until she tried Kiddy-Calm.
Have you heard of it?

I also know of about 3 people who say that their childrens tantrums have stopped since they have been using Kiddy-Calm.

It is 100% natural, so can do no harm.

Let me know if you would like any more info.

Hope you can get some me time soon :-)

HI!!
My son is almost 3 years old now and I have a nearly 1 year old. I used to put my older son in the bedroom and he would go sleep on his own. Its now become a battle. He is scared of the dark so I have put a night light on. Then he does everything he can think of to delay bedtime. I end up having to sit with him for up to 3 hours when he decides he is ready to sleep. I don't know what to do any more. If I get up and leave its a huge tantrum that doesn't stop til I am back in the bedroom.

I have the little one to get to sleep as well and he is easy and often asleep way before his brother in his cot and all I do is pat his bum a bit and he sleeps. He then gets woken up if I leave the bedroom cos my toddler insists on having huge tantrums. All that has changed in recent times is that he is going to creche half day every day. It doesn't matter whether he has a nap during the day or not he still fights at night sometimes til 10pm and my me time is gone. What can I do to change this situation. Please before I lose my mind.
