3 years old - morning and night bottle!!!!

MonicaR, I am all for letting your child give you clues. I am sure she will give it up by the time she goes to school!

My LG has her night time bottle long before bed time - she does not take it with her to sleep. So I don't know what I would replace it with.....That is why i tried a nice fancy cup. But to no avail.

I'm her comfort item for sleeping....
(I have to lie with her for her to go to sleep - I know, I know - another habit I have to break, but just one thing at a time.)

the weird thing is - is that i got her off her dummy just after she turned 1 and it was so easy. I simply put in the cupboard - and it was not even asked for. Out of sight, out of mind!

And murphys law now though - cos if i tell you how i struggled to get her to take the bottle in the first place when she was little - coming off the breast cos i was going back to work... man what a struggle.
AND NOW I can't get her off the dam thing!!

Anyways with everything else - no more nappy, sleeping etc etc - she kind of told me when she was ready and I took cues from her - so maybe I should just wait it out and see how it goes for when she is ready to give it up.

I will go and get her a nice new cup - again - or a nice princess sports bottle things - and just keep trying i guess.
Cos the last thing i want or need right now - is a temper tantrum happening every morning and night for the darn bottle.

just wanted to get her off it now so that by the time the new baby arrives, the bottles are long gone and forgotten for her.

Does your LG have another comfort item when going to bed like a special soft toy or a dummy or blanket?

I think it is important to realise that the milk bottle is a comfort item and be sensitive in the way that you take it away because it is something that means a lot to her.

Maybe take her shopping and tell her she can choose a special toy in exchange for the bottles?

And don't take away a comfort item in time when her normal routine is changed in any way.

Dont know if i can be of much help, my LB went off his bottle when he was 2, but only off his dummy close to three and when i did with that was i snipped the end of the dummy with a scissors and bought him a toy that he wanted (at that point it was MR. Potatoe Head) i showed him that the dummy was broken but because he was a big boy he got present instead of using the dummy. He tried to suck the dummy but hated it so he took it and threw it away, he asked for it at night for two evenings and then stopped, I just reminded him he was a big boy now.


I hope that maybe the other ladies will be able to give you some advice.

I wonder if anyone can help or shed some light.

My LG is 3 years old - just turned 3 this week.
However she still has a morning bottle (in a bottle with teat) and a bottle just before bed.
It is just normal cows milk that has to be slightly warm or she won't drink it.

SO, now how do i get her off the bottle?
She drinks fine out of cups during the day but wants her milk in a bottle.....

The whole of January I kept saying to her that I will get her a nice cup so that she can start using it so when it is her bday she must stop with the bottles.
so I bought her a cup but oh my word - she wants nothing to do with it.

We have told her that she is a big girl now and bottles are for babies so she must have her milk out of a cup.
This is not working....

What do I do?
Do i just go cold turkey on her and that is that - she either has it in the cup or does not have it all? bottles thrown away...

HELP PLEASE!
