file Struggling to get toddler to eat

14 years 7 months ago #221289 by KerryA
Kaelyn also went through a week or two of the same and what i found helped tremendously was introducing the mighty spork

at first i gave it to her with oatess or some other edible dry cereal... and she would try eat like mommy and daddy... or give it to them in a muffin tray and let them move it from hole to hole...

then we graduated to real food and now i let her grab the spoon, then help her load it up and with as little guidance as possible but still holding the back of it let her get it to her mouth...

distraction works too... let them eat while watching the dogs play or ... i don't know the tv if need be (you could always break the habbit later i guess)

and if they want to eat only the cheese on the samwich make it a toased cheese... then they have to eat them together...

:-)

good luck

I'm sure they are just asserting their independence.
I think Mishka will be exactly the same- in fact she already is. But at least I have the staple yoghurt option.

Ladies start a thread on the Turbo Kids competition :)
Just add a pic to what you have already started chatting about.

Joybaby - yes she is at a daymom and most days eat very well there. The thing is I have to pack lunch for her each day and I just don't know what to pack anymore. She absolutely refuses to eat veggies even if I mash it to a purity. I have tried packing a sandwhich but then she will only eat the cheese from the sandwhich and not the bread. I have also now started to give the fruit purity because she refuses to eat fresh fruit.

I am at a stage where I will allow her eating flings altough she hasn't eaten her food, just so that I know she at least eat something.

Ronel its as if you're describing my child on here!
Is she at a daymom at all or full time at home?
kaylee will eat wonderfully at the daymom, but try feed her anything at home she pretty much refuses.
Also totally off cereal of any kind, and yogurt used to be my go to but that doesnt always work anymore. Even resorted to buying purity again cos for a couple days she ate that.
At lunch I find what works is finger foods. So I cut up tomatos, cheese, ham, grapes, apple, toast and let her feed herself. It's not the best though as very much 'diet' food. But at least she eats. Dinner time is also a struggle, and she'll feed herself but only a small amount and then she starts playing with the food and throwing it over the side of the high chair.
She is now 19 months old and weighs 9kg so I feel your stress.

I have her on one bottle of pediasure a day to help her with nutrients.
She was totally fine until last month when she came back from hospital. Before then it was still a 'struggle' but not nearly as much and I never worried cos she eats well at the daymom during the week but now its really starting to frustrate me!

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

My LG is 21 months and weighs 10kg. It is such a struggle to get her to eat anything. She drinks 150ml milk in the morning and 220ml in the evening. The rest of the day she drinks either tea or cooldrink. She will only eat joghurt or eggs. She has now started refusing her porridge in the morning as well. Of course she will eat chips and sweets. But if I offer anything else she refuses it immediately. She will not even look at it or touch it. As far as I know she is not sick or teething.

Should I just leave her if she doesn't want to eat?
